Personally I get why people don't support raceswapping in the series they enjoy.

I mean did you see the white kid playing Aang in The Last Airbender's Live Action Movie.

Being controversial here, but a character playing Aang in my view should always have a Far East Asian appearance, but I guess that's just me.

So in fairness I do have sympathy with The Little Mermaid fans.

Having said that though Lance Reddick did look interesting as Albert Wesker in the Resident Evil series, so raceswapping isn't automatically wrong imo.

I've seen a lot of these clips and, to be fair to the young actor, I don't think this is entirely her fault. I think the press teams at Disney have given a sort of broad instruction to the cast to distance from the original and emphasise that this is a more modern version - and unfortunately she (being only 22 and a "young seeming" 22) has misunderstood the assignment somewhat and comes across as mocking/bitter about the original. It's OK to update an intellectual property but you have to do it with respect for the original version ... or fans are just not going to respond well. But yeah... I think she thinks she's doing what she was told to do, and hasn't given it very much thought. And I think the poor girl will be going under the bus with it instead of the people who deserve to (the soulless Disney cash-grab execs).

As for the film itself ... well. None of the Disney live action remakes are good. They are unilaterally worse than the original versions. Not in a "well it's just different" sense - just plain ol' objectively worse. Plasticky, factory line poor film making for a quick $$$.

I can appreciate that the same can by and large be said for other Disney properties like the MCU - but those are at least carried by some good action sequences and sellf-referential humour. The live action Disney has none of that.

IIRC (though I didn't watch the whole thing, it was pretty bad?) they didn't actually race-swap Wesker... they made it clear that there are actually "multiple Weskers", so the OG "Johnny Bravo" Wesker still exists (existed? Pretty sure he's dead in Resi canon after 5... though that means little in that franchise I guess). Reddick was playing a literally different Wesker.

''poor girl''

it were her own words, how she hated the original Snow White, i mean this girl isn't held at gunpoint when she was approached for this particular role, so she could've also said no, you know

this ''poor girl'' also recently was nasty against Jeremy Renner (and we all know Jeremy is a really nice guy) and one of those who cancelled Gina Carano on The Mandalorian

she's an absolute disgrace to her generation, and i'm sure many other teens would've been in awe of getting to play such an iconic disney character

i think a modern version of snow white can work, but then come up with an entire original story, completely in the modern times, subtly based on the snow white story but just couple of new things such as new character names, a actor with dwarfism to represent one of the iconic ''dwarfs'' also in a more authentic role

same how we have plenty of Cinderella versions out there (both classic and modern)

Yes I agree that only one of the dwarves being a dwarf is one of the dumbest things I've ever heard... literally no one asked for this. Including people with dwarfism.

Yeah, i watched an interview with a dwarf actor and he said he's pissed off, especially considering how limited their roles are.

I think it's just madness really... even if you consider it to be a disability (which many don't) the logic doesn't stack up. Imagine you were making a movie about, let's say, a wheelchair basketball team... ... ... casting one person who is genuinely disabled ... and beyond that INSISTING on only casting actors without disabilities. In the name of... er... I don't know. I don't even know what. Not being discriminatory, apparently??

"We're making a dramatised movie version of Queer Eye For The Straight Guy... but only one of the Queer Eye guys will be a gay man. He will be accompanied by a straight man, a straight woman, and a cat."

what disney are doing is trying to shoe horn a new movie into an old concept to try and maximize the profit from existing successful intellectual property. Its a failure. I'm sure they always knew it would be a failure, but revenue comes from many sources not just the new movie and it may have improved the revenue of all the associated original snow white crap

There's an interesting interview with ex WWE wrestler Hornswoggle/Dylan Postl on Piers Morgan a month or so back. I don't like Morgan, but the interview is pretty good, and Dylan puts his points across well.

A fictional Danish Mermaid in a traditional Danish fairy tale. Sounds like cultural appropriation... or it would if it was a white girl in an African tale.

As for as the rest of your post, bite me.

Such a silly, ignorant, racist woman.

Shame on you

I haven't watched the Show yet, but tbh I can live with that explanation.

Plus I did always like Reddick's performances in other works, so personally I'm open to the idea of him being Wesker.

As far as I recall, he was meant to be The Wesker. The original Wesker's death matched that from the games etc.

(He being the basis for the clones)
