tl;dr she's wrong that because there are obviously worse examples of sexual assault, that this is not a form of sexual assault. Where do you end that impossible standard? You're always going to be able to think of a worse form of assault. You can call something what it is and still acknowledge levels of severity. I don't think anyone has called for him to go to prison. He absolutely should lose his position.

You did say that if it had been David Beckham who kissed that girl that no one would complain.You also stated that most of these women are probably lesbian so why would it matter how good looking the man was for a start and secondly I don't think Luis Rubiales is unattractive either (although he comes across as a bit of a perv with his crotch grabbing on top of the kiss)

I think the fact the player has said she wasn't comfortable with it should be the main focus here. Also, his handling of it has been ridiculous. Had he said something like "look, i was over excited, i got wrapped up in the moment, it was a very foolish to do, i've let the team down and i apologise to Hermoso for my actions" etc then people might have a little more sympathy for him. That he doesn't know it was completely wrong of him to do is also a concern.

You don't get "caught up in the moment" and overstep into someone's personal space without a clear underlying disregard for that space in the first place. Is that all it takes to excuse a mindset of entitlement? A slip of concentration? Even if you're right, the message has to be delivered as swiftly and decisively as possible that over-stepping like this will land you in hot water.

I think you'll find that, miraculously, once the line is clear far fewer men get "caught up in the moment". Funny, that.

100% agree.

His reaction is the main red flag to me and shows he is either not used to being called out or sees no wrong in his actions even when he knows he has made someone very uncomfortable.

I don't care how fierce or passionate someone is about anything, if your actions make someone else uncomfortable, no matter how innocuous you perceive it, you acknowledge their feelings and apologise.

IMO it's likely not the first time, likely not the only member of the team he's made feel uncomfortable, likely has been talked about amongst them in the past with a feeling that there's not a lot that could be done about it because of his position and influence.

But he got "caught up in the moment" and behaved the same with the eyes of the world on him - wups - which gave her the opportunity to say "yeah actually this isn't OK" with a lessened risk of persecution.
