Who has elected Sunak??? The Cons didn't even complete their own electoral process with him. Plus 2 changes of leader and PM in less than one full term of governnent since 2019. It's okay though when the Cons abuse electoral processes. Typical. Why should I even be in the slightest surprised Con hardliners would allow it for them. Unbelievable arrogance. WHO elected him?? I asked.
Plus it will be likely over 2 years he'll have had power by the time he DARES to hold an election . The vote for Con leader didn't even go to the final stages that put him in as leader. Plus he's the 2nd change in power of PM by the Cons in 3 years. NO party has done that in government. So WHO has elected Sunak? Defend him all you like but you can't really criticise Brown while defending Sunak. Although obviously you will. When Blair stood down after 10 years, Brown was the only candidate who came forward for leader. For that ONE ONLY change of leader in government. Unlike this deceitful shocking lot of CONS. |

people don't vote for a prime minister, they vote for a local mp. Thats our democracy.
The PM is usually the leader of the main party in government, but it doesn't have to be. There is no public democratic method of choosing a PM, so talk of not having a mandate is just not applicable. Thats the way it's always been and it would be exactly the same with proportional representation too |

That's the main part of the issue really. Prime Ministers going back to Thatcher, or even Churchill, have had the flavour of a President whilst being "technically" a Prime Minister. Sunak less so than more obvious examples like Boris or Blair to be fair - he's more Littlefinger-style weasley - but still, it is what it is in the modern world. Yes "technically" they're just head of the ruling party but that's not the aesthetics of modern UK politics... The Prime Minister is the de facto head of state in the eyes of the population and crucially in the eyes of other heads of state. |

i like the system because you do have the opportunity to dump the PM if he is crap. If we voted in a president, Boris would still be in power laughing his head off
