I have no problem whatsoever with people doing what they need to do to cope in whatever way works - so long as they're not disregarding and exploiting other people to do so.

NHS staff were used as an idol, a crutch and then swiftly when it was convenient, became a scapegoat. It's disgusting behaviour from the British public and not something to be fondly remembered. Shameful.

Shameful seems a bit ott

As far as I can see NHS staff are still held in very high regard by the public

So long as they can refer to them as "angels" and not increase their pay by a penny. Highly regarded martyrs.

"Shameful" isn't OTT at all as a description of how British politicians and the British public treat healthcare professionals.

I'm not referring to the clapping at the time as shameful - that was just silly hive mind nonsense, I doubt anyone who did it gave it more than an ounce of thought.

The fact that the same people who were stood banging tubs completely turned on those same people they were clapping for as soon as they said "hey maybe pay us fairly" - that is shameful. No other word for it.

But as we've discovered no one was clapping for the NHS after all, they were clapping for themselves and their neighbours. Parmy and Zizu said so.

The public haven't had much of a say in that tbf. We haven't had an election since 2019 and it looks like the current gov are going to be totally annihilated the first chance the public has had. Support for various strike action has been fairly high across much of the country as well.

I think you're overly harsh on the public, it's not exactly been sunshine and rainbows for most people ever since the pandemic

I think the idea came from a good place!

It was to show that we all recognised what they were doing for the country

We all thought we were gonna die ( the daily updates on the death toll wasn’t helpful)

Plus the NHS folk were seen as being on the front line and so at even more risk . They were risking their lives each day when the vast majority were on a long term , fully paid jolly in the good old British sunshine !!

I worked all through the covid years and each working day I felt nauseous through fear
