The tricky bit is over. Getting through the group. Now it's knock-out football and that's when the best teams know how to win, and the cream rises to the top. You don't want to be hitting your peak until it matters. |

Was that win over Portugal in a friendly or Nations League? Because if so then it doesn't really count imo, as nobody really tries that hard in either one of those things.

If you apparently can't beat Slovenia then you can't beat a team that's significantly better than Slovenia. Especially when the England team is clearly taking their personal issues with Southgate out on the fans with these underwhelming results.

The group stages are always difficult to navigate through, because it's early in tournament and everyone's playing from an even off. Those lesser teams are all enthusiastic and full of energy because this is their big chance to prove themselves on the big stage And the bigger teams also need to get some games and results under their belt before they hit their A game.. Come back to me when we get beat, because so far, we haven't. |

A pattern is forming for England, where as Netherlands are going toe to toe with a really good Austria side, and let's be honest... They were robbed of the goal against France.

That is over. And we've done what's been required to do so far, so tonight means nothing now, it's in the past. Be positive as we go on to the next game. Sunday is a different day Last edited by Alf; 25-06-2024 at 10:30 PM. |

How has Southgate ruined England’s front 4 who got 165 G/A last season.

You don't win the trophy after game 3. Football teams can't be at their brilliant best every single game. It's impossible. So far, they've done what they need to do and it's been a fairly comfortable journey through the first phase. We've never looked like we could be knocked out. We got an early victory. We picked up points in the next two. Why are you scared of France? By your logic, France have been beat by one of the less fancied teams. We haven't been beat. We won our group in a canter. We haven't even got out of 2nd gear yet. This team has plenty more in it. Last edited by Alf; 25-06-2024 at 11:55 PM. |

I've seen great England teams struggle to get out their group.
The 1990 World Cup team drew their first two games. Then got a lucky win in the third. They scored a last minute extra time goal in the second round. They got battered in the quaters against Cameroon, but ended up scraping through with two penalties. Then in the Semi-final, they probably should have won it and would have looked favourites to win the final. But we lost a penalty shoot-out. International tournaments ain't a walk over. Every team wants to win. The team that times their run right will be in with a shot. You really want to be at your best in the semi-final and final. You just hope you can reach that stage. So far, we're still on track. Last edited by Alf; 26-06-2024 at 12:25 AM. |

1. They were probably putting in effort, and just delivering better performances throughout the tournament, which any Football fan can respect. And 2. They were probably struggling against much better teams than Slovenia. What I saw last night would be the equivalent of Man Utd struggling against Birmingham City.

I also would have liked a comfortable victory tonight. But it wasn't essential at this point, we were already through, technically. So I can see why the players were not out to do anything that would be a gamble for the rest of the tournament. They just did what they needed to do to progress in the tournament. He had to play his first team because we wasn't sure if we were mathematical through, but those players won't be going full tilt with the chance of picking up cards and injuries. They just made sure they got through by getting the result that was required. |

We WERE through the moment Spain beat Albania the night before !! It was a basically a free hit .. just better to top the table to avoid other table topping teams .. but then France finished THIRD so that theory was flawed . Given how useless and leggy they all looked against Denmark he should’ve played 10 reserves to see what they can do under this type of pressure Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro Last edited by Zizu; 26-06-2024 at 05:37 AM. |

Wish I shared your enthusiasm Football for me is all about special moments and highlights but in our case we have Bellingham’s goal plus his first 30 minutes of the opening game ..and possibly all of Palmer’s passes and link up play when he came on for ten minutes last night Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro |

Foden is supposedly this generational talent yet once again he flattered to deceive and his forward passes were going astray again ( the majority of his passes went back backwards) In contrast Palmer’s passes were accurate and incisive AND forward . Drop Foden and play Gordon ( who I don’t care for but we didn’t bring Grealish) or move Bellingham alongside Rice and move Goden to the number 10 slot ( Gordon on the left) Drop Saka ( who looks exhausted) and play Palmer . Last night I would have rested Bellingham and Rice but replaced them with Wharton and Mainoo Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro Last edited by Zizu; 26-06-2024 at 07:00 AM. |
