Quote:
Xenophobic yes. Anyone spreading fear and scare stories about immigrants in the last few days is 100% being xenophobic. Xenophobia noun 1) A fear of strangers or foreigners. 2) A strong antipathy or aversion to strangers or foreigners. 3) A fear of foreigners or strangers. Can you refute the above definition? You've expressed being fearful... you've made it clear who/what you are afraid of. That's it... that's the whole definition. There's a common misconception that "xenophobic" and "racist" are synonymous -- I actually recall having quite a heated discussion about the distinction on this very forum several years ago. They're not the same thing. Someone who is racist will no doubt be a xenophobic. Someone who is xenophobic will almost certainly say things that are either intentionally or unintentionally racist. But there is a subtle distinction in the reasoning. (Either way it's bad reasoning) |
