I think there is a danger to democracy, but all based around him wanting to make sure he can do what he wants and the fact he wants to be seen as a tough guy, not because he wants to put lefties in internment camps. He's a classic narcissist, so everything will always be about what's best for him. Unfortunately, it's the people involved with him and after him that will have the infrastructure in place, where things could get really dangerous.

Yes but it's not HIS claims that are baffling - it's the Trump zealot's unwavering belief that he will come through and, eventually, all of their Trump hopes and dreams will fall into place, because it's all been one grand plan all along. Utterly barmy - and no amount of the things they swear blind are going to happen, simply failing to happen whatsoever, will convince them that the chef's kiss winning moment isn't "just round the corner".

It's less about the person, more that the process of selecting a candidate is now more ceremonial than democratic. It has never so blatant a process to take the voter's perspective for granted. Half the country can clearly not be on board with something but that won't stop parties thrusting candidates into the mainstream that push those voters to the sidelines. It obviously is having bad effects. There used to an unique tension between the public and the politicians which was needed. Now politicians are treated more like rockstars and that's very different.
