I agree, Ammi. I liked it when it first came out, and there are still certain things about it that appeal to me, but overall I've massively cooled off on it and feel mixed about it at best. I do think it's tremendously overrated. I really dislike how every modern filmmaker seems so keen to suck all the fantastical and larger than life qualities out of the character and reduce it downt to being 'a crime movie that happens to have Batman in it'. It's been a problem since the Chris Nolan movies, good as they were. The Affleck stuff was admittedly a bit of a break from all that, but they were also shite.

The Burton movies are still closest to my ideal portrayal of Batman. Schumacher's Batman Forever is also pretty underrated imo.

The Fabelmans - I liked it but it felt a bit unfinished to me, kind of ends just before where it should take off almost, I know it was more of an early life type film but I would still have liked to see him get succesful etc 7/10

Wonka - Much Better than I thought, and actually funny and whimsical, was a good cast aswell . Surprisingly Hugh Grant fitted in well as a Oompah Loompa .

The Holdovers - Interesting movie, Paul Giamatti & Da'Vine Joy Randolph very well cast . And I think this will be a breakthrough for Dominic Sessa. This movie was a mix of bittersweet drama & emotion.

Apocalypto. I remember coming out of a move and seeing the poster for this in the hallway of the cinema and being really intrigued. Regrettably, I was much too young to see it. And for whatever reason, I never felt that much enthusiasm to actually seek it out and watch it in all the years since, despite admittedly still being vaguely interested. Finally summoned up the energy to watch it this morning. Great, engaging film that held my interest for the entirety of its just over 2 hour length. Quite brutal and depresssing at times, but that's the nature of the beast when it's a film dealing with the fall of a civlisation and its supplanting by a technologically superior race.

…oh apologies, I’ve just seen this ChalkOutline….yeah, I’m really not sure what I thought of it because it just wasn’t what I expected and it didn’t feel…(…for me..)…as though it had any soul…that’s something that previous Batman movies/stories have always felt for me…I am now thinking, though…that maybe I should go back for a re-watch and see if it was just not what I expected but still a good movie …ughhhh, it’s so long, though…I’m not sure when I could give that time commitment again for a while….

Yeah the length was another issue for me. I remember some people saying that it didn't feel it's near 3 hour length...well, it did for me lol. And then some. I remember checking my watche more and more as the film drew to a close. Never a good sign.

.

Green Book.
Watched it last night/this morning.
Absolutely fascinating.
I knew quite a bit about Doctor Shirley, but to see it on film was amazing.

…yeah, same …I was restless and wandering off in thoughts after probably around and hour …and I don’t think that I really fully engaged again, which is why it felt so draggy, I think…the other thing was the soundtrack, it wasn’t that it wasn’t a good soundtrack but it felt too dominating in many places and felt as though it was more prominent than the visuals and storyline, you know…

A History of Violence……I found it really intense and absorbing and Viggo Mortensen has come a long way since Aragorn days, he’s such a versatile and watchable/likeable actor…there was aspects of the storyline that was kind of…ok, we’ve been here before and nothing new to see, type thing…but I think it was a very layered movie in its characters and its storyline …it wasn't the action type movie that we often see with that type of story of someone having a past that those around them aren’t aware of…

Spoiler:

…I liked how it explored that aspect of his son that was drawn to violence in his own reactions to the bully…having ‘violent capabilities’ that scared him, really…that he himself also ‘tried to avoid being in any situation of violence and always aimed for the passive responses…even without him having that past that his father had…just being scared of himself, really and what he felt was ‘inside him’….exploring an ‘inherent gene’…?….and that family connection also with Joey’s brother, Richie…hmmmm, the blood of violence running through the family…?…

…William Hurt was really underused in a way but also perfectly cast and just always excellent as his character…but yeah, very absorbing and a bit different from the movie it could have been and many have been that have gone before…8.5/10, I think…

Baltimore……I saw a review of this, saying it was dreadful… and a story/movie that could be told in 5 minutes …but I found it interesting, Imogen Poots as Rose Dugdale was very good in showing someone who was completely radicalised and completely lost in ‘her cause’ …7/10, I reckon…

White Chicks - It was basically everything that modern Comedy isn't.

- Funny
- Entertaining
- Likable characters
- Outrageous

Qualities that make a good Comedy, White Chicks actually has it.

I highly recommend that today's Comedy writers go and watch the Film more than anyone else.

But it is a really funny Movie imo.

..A Man Called Otto……it was kind of a predictable story that has been done so many times before but Tom Hanks and the whole cast lifted it to such an endearing level…just very lovely and very moving, really…9/10…

…Cold Comes the Night……also not really anything different in its storyline but very well cast…Alice Eve and Brian Cranston both made it very watchable and ticked along nicely …6/10…

…The End We Start From……I liked it, Jodie Cromer is always a great watch and I felt that it really captured the beginning of an apocalypse world so well…it felt chillingly real…8/10…

Miss Meadows….a little slow at times but also deliciously dark and Katie Holmes was perfect as the perfect and deadly Miss Meadows…8/10…

I watched it at the weekend, I was really looking forward to it but I thought it was shite tbh, wasn't at all scary and couldn't warm to any of the characters enough to care about them, Gav thought the same. Seems we might be in the minority as it has gotten good reviews but
