Society in the West is getting more puritanical by the minute (and that's both sides of the Political spectrum) it's tragic to see tbh.

No time period is perfect, but there is without a shadow of a doubt no contest that 1996-2013 (I'll say) were much better for entertainment and just being more uplifting as a society.

Today people are scared of doing anything interesting because it might lose them their livelihood due to a few psychos on the Internet being offended by that individual's behaviour, and then call that person's boss to get them fired.

We're in disgusting times and I'm not even joking, I keep waiting for it to get better, but people are either too blinded to see it or are too scared to point it out, we have many issues in our current times that were not here back in 2013.

If you want me to list all of the problems and bore you all to death then I will, but I like to think that a lot of people on here will know what I'm talking about.

And no, my biggest issue with today's society and entertainment is not minority groups getting major opportunities in employment, because whilst I find some of it performative from some of the businesses, I honestly don't hold a grudge with someone earning a living.

I personally want people to have fun again, I would like to be able to have proper fun again, no bars hold type of fun without being potentially ruined irl over it.

I mean some people are so phony today that you can't tell how they really feel about anyone or anything.

Basically Stephen King's Books never stood a chance in this horribly mechanical world that we're in right now, and I'm not even a big fan of his stuff.

If they need to ban books that contain sex and violence they should ban the Bible.

Banned books are always more desirable.

I've watched a few Stephen King movies & productions in general, i've never read any of his books though . But I heard that there's ALOT of graphic inappropriate stuff written in 'IT ', alot of unnecessary sex & Pervy moments.

I'm glad non of that made the movie ( I'm talking originally as I haven't watched the remakes). So I would say ' IT' probably is more for older teenagers to read rather than younger kids ,but I don't agree with banning of books.... because where do we draw the line .

Well both political sides are equally just as bad when it comes to pushing for bans & censorship. Look at the whole situation with people wanting to censor / ban dead authors like Roald Dahl , Enid Blyton , Robert Louis Stevenson etc.

I think Ann Frank's
diary got banned in places. I can't think of anything more disrespecting...than
wanting to edit / erase the words of people who are no longer around... it's like they want to wipe history.

I just did a quick Google, and suddenly R.L. Stine goosebumps is getting the same treatment... apparently his books were censored by the publisher WITHOUT his permission ,I actually said " FFS " to myself , he's atleast still around like Stephen King...so they can actually speak out against it .

i actually think it would be sensible to have an age certification on books similar to what they implement in the film industry. Then, people can read what they want wthin the appropriate age range

I mean, I love some of King's books, but there's some weird **** in there, these books are not for kids, certainly not under (if we were to do a classic "UK age rating") 15. Some parts of some of them 18. There are some pretty graphic scenes and themes waaay beyond anything they ever put in the TV/Film adaptations of his work. Plus, specifically, there's often an underrunning current of childhood trauma. Like... The Shining is all about addiction, mental illness, abuse and generational trauma. It aint a spooky story for 12 year olds .

Yeah Stephen King's work was never pepper pig / child friendly, but the whole banning / removing his books is a messy situation. I think they should just state that his books are more for older teens & adults . And like mentioned...they should put a age certificate on them or something.

This whole censorship/ banning thing has become such a slippery slope lately.

Yeah age restrictions are on films and video games, why not these books?

…are they actually being banned…?…I read I an article that some books were being reviewed for their content suitability so removed for that reviewing…?…some may be returned and some not, possibly…schools will have different versions of ‘suitability’ dependant on their students as well as other factors…

It's being controlled, which is actually stronger than banning. What they are going toward is a system of extremes, rather than a balanced approach and it reflects the polarised politics.

One of Trumps aims is to return education responsibility to the states, so basically, the federal safe guards will be removed and the quality of education will vary dramatically state to state

why?

honestly everyone knows Stephen King's books are not for children, the film adaptations are also not for children, they're literally in the horror genre

a ban on books always feels wrong tbh, very much against freedom of expression of the arts
