I don't blame him. I did not like Bush 2 and I voted solidly Democrat during those cycles. McCain might've even been a proper moderate direction for the country, but he didn't stand a chance with the state of the GOP at the time. I still remember the way the Bush regime used the press conferences to gaslight the public on the war. The disdain for the press and lack of care about the change in public perception from the establishment began to be really felt there, which gave birth to "movements" (ie our cries for help )...

Bush had a blank check to get away with what I think current Presidents can only dream of because he had an unprecedented level of support after the attacks. Now politicians (especially partisans) are too heavily scrutinized and it's difficult to get even reasonable things passed through Congress. (In some ways, it's a good thing, since we have working brakes at all...)

I blame him and Cheney for much of the division between the parties on the ground level because we were not like this pre-9/11. The war and how it was managed disturbed the people's trust and frankly, the government's perception of its hold on power. And then tack on the fact the internet was just a fledgling, just beginning to influence everything... the amount of bloggers (which we should all miss...) covering the war, scrutinizing details and doing their own research, among other social issues... the government was obviously not used to this level of push back and so now current day, we see media and establishment are doing all the handling of "criticism" for them... all the while, we don't have bloggers now because of the way the large sites have decimated the smaller web's influence with their algorithms. When Ad blockers already made things difficult. I legitimately believe great things could've resulted from that era, but now the algorithm feeds people so much nonsense, it's hard to get a sense of where we share common ground and can work together... people have to learn to think around them and it's not a 1-2 generation skill that can be learned so easily.

She had a lot of help during the debate and it ultimately helps her erase her inactivity in the press from memory now that they have something new to chew on. They will help her in this. Trump should've known better than to scramble after the very easy bait that was sitting in front of him. People forget he was a reality TV star so his instinct in front of a camera is to maximize the controversy for extra ratings. It was uncomfortable watching knowing he was going to blow pretty much any moment, but that instinct wasn't going to serve him to know when to put brakes on what could be very damaging in his fight for the Independent vote. Remember, reality TV treat all press is good press... he really doesn't seem to grasp important nuances when it comes to politics, especially with how it impacts his appeal with female voters.

There is a silver lining to this. If Trump wins, they really can't say she didn't have every advantage possible. So this is a benefit from the type of campaign they are running. Unfortunately, her candidacy will be tarred by this and I think it's rather disappointing that this could be our first female President... the argument will be "See? There was no other way!".. which inevitably will renew arguments to loosen election rules, which will of course increase fraud, as equity will be a useful argument for getting in more candidates like Kamala... it's almost too predictable.

Saw online some were saying the head of the network is her bestie. Didn't google to check it so it may not actually be true, but it wouldn't change much. I thought the sorority connection was more interesting because I'm curious how those connections actually influence things like this behind the scenes... I know school buddies can be very close, especially female-connected alums. I'm well aware of those connections locally among the Catholic community. Especially the women-only classes, they still meet up with elementary/high school alumni even in their old age. Those communities I'm already aware can be quite influential in politics. Many network TV and famous figures come from strong alumni connections. It makes sense, one would need a lot of courage and self-esteem to run for public office.. it also takes a lot of family and community support to make that happen, even if it's in spirit... I would imagine. Trump also benefits from a supportive family structure and communities... what stings us as individuals amongst the public probably stings them a lot less with that sort of foundation and support as their overall character has a strong communal backing. Texan politics have a lot of this type of support not only at the political, but also business level. (Especially where it is married to politics)

When we're talking about these people, we're really talking about people who are insanely privileged and don't generally have a thin skin. It's not like they view the world with the same moral lens we do either, in fact, they probably see these connections as not only useful, but necessary, to survive in both the business and political world. It's easier to see why they can't relate who truly struggle physically, mentally and spiritually... often when they do, it's often trying to relate their pain to ours, but it's clearly not the same type of empathy even... more like an expected response.

Yes, she wasn't Haitian, but it's all become a meme at this point. I don't distrust if enough locals are saying it is occurring, but it hardly needed to be brought up into the debate. I don't think it helped his base/supporters, either as they're now acting gas lit social media. Imo, they've played right into the same tactics Trump fell for during the debate, is that now they're playing the game of "I'm not crazy! But clearly you are!]" ... and it just goes around and around in a circle...
