I agree with your perception of events, as I feel that Ali has unintentionally misjudged Khaled and is, as a consequence, misinterpreting and misrepresenting everything he now says and does.
Her perception of Khaled is not what I see, and it seems to me that, no matter what he says or does now, he just cannot win. I can’t imagine how he must be feeling at the moment, as the way Ali shuts down any discussions on the matter, he is left with no means of addressing what seems to me are unfair and unjust accusations. It feels a little bit like character assassination, even though I do not think that this is Ali’s intention. It’s just sad all round really.
