Default Bristol : Green Council first to do Once a Month, Bin Collections

A Green council could become the
first in England to collect household bins
just once a month
,
leaked documents have revealed.
The proposal by Bristol city council,
designed to cut costs and improve
recycling rates, has prompted concern
from residents about fly-tipping and smells from
mounting waste.

…there’s already quite a build of fury online over this, I see…and it hasn’t been decided yet, I don’t think…?…I notice in driving around that there is more and more rubbish by the side of the roads in the shrubbery etc…it feels as though it’s another thing that sadly regressing, that being less mindful of surroundings and caring for them…and this is something that needs to be worked on anyway but this will only aggravate, I feel…

…one of the big concerns is disposable nappies and them being there for such a long time, especially obviously in the summer warmer weather…

…it isn’t just something that would apply to households with babies, either…some older children with development issues and conditions and some more elderly people also …

…whichever way it’s flipped, it’s generally the more/most vulnerable that are impacted most by these council changes and cutbacks etc…

Everyone was soooo happy and optimistic when Labour won …

Riots within 10 days and things have gone steadily downhill ever since

Just needs Starmer to step down and Angela Rayner to become Prime Minister to make my day ( not )

Just imagine Rayner as PM and Queen feking Camilla at the same time

Thankfully I live in South Glos literally 100m from the Bristol council boundary

Thing is both councils do recycling on a weekly collection and black bin fortnightly. If they want to save money they should just make recycling fortnightly rather than messing with black bins. There's already so much crap littered and dumped in the city

The Green Party does have some really good ideas but some major policymaking is concerning.

Messing about with rubbish collection is not wise.
This doesn't sound a good idea at all.

Ours here in Wales have reduced to black collection every 3 weeks (such an annoying time to try keep track of) and we’re no longer allowed to put the black bags in the bins, we have to put them in the street as just bags for collection day.

Can’t wait for summer and the seagulls to rip it all open and the streets be covered in crap.

That seems bizarre, people could just dump as many black bags as they want then?

Non collection of rubbish though can lead to health hazards.
Where do they put rubbish they can no longer place enclosed in bins?

We have a black bin and a green bin here and they go out alternate weeks. It works for us, a family of four. I wouldn't want to leave it any longer than a fortnight, by the time the bin goes out it's properly full. Four weeks is surely just a health hazard.

I suggest the Green council is short of money because it's spending it on whacky ideas and not the essentials that people expect.

The thing is, it's not just about the volume of trash - in summer months, trash left for a month is absolutely rancid. It basically starts to compost, the smell is unreal.

Of course they'll just counter that there shouldn't be any old/leftover food in the green bins, it's all supposed to go in the little food bins that are collected more often, but being realistic... there's going to be some amount of "organic waste material" in those green bins, sweating away in the summer heat, attracting flies/ants/etc. Ugh.

I have 4 bins and 3 (cans, paper, gen waste) get emptied once a month. The brown bin garden waste and food get lifted twice a month.

I only use the brown bin for garden stuff as I have no food waste

Idk where you are but our black bins get collected 3 times a month, 1 week being the garden waste green bin collection

We’re classed under the Rhondda Cynon Taf council.

We went from having black bag collections every week to fortnightly, to now having f every 3 weeks (which is a pain to try remember when they are collecting.

Our recycling is still weekly collections.

So you could move to Monthly

Here, we have to pay now for brown bin collection.

I don't have the permit.
