Meeting the Pope seems highly relevant to Rayner's portfolio as minister for housing, communities and local government

This bloody government and their trips abroad... Luckily there's no urgent business at home that needs their attention.

BBC News Text:
[The Daily Express reports on
Tory leader Kemi Badenoch's demand
for a national public inquiry into
the UK's "rape gangs scandal".
The call came after the Home Office
rejected Oldham Council's request
for a government-led inquiry into
historical child sexual exploitation
in the town - saying the council
should lead it instead.]

Was she calling for this all her time in government over the last decade or so?

She's right but this is rather hypocritical.
The government she was in DID NOTHING really on this.over ALL that time
Yet now she's urgently DEMANDING.

in fairness, in any tory government there are only 2 or 3 people that make policy. May had 2 unelected helpers, Boris had one (Cummings)

Everyone else is told to get into line. I don't know if the same applies now to labour, but it did with Alistair Campbell and Blair

I'd say you are more correct in that certainly.

It might be hypocritical, but better late than never. It's something that should be done.

Would Labour have made similar demands while they were in opposition? Well no, because a) they didn't and b) they shot the idea down.

It's hypocritical of her
That's my view.

She's acting like the Cons haven't been in government the last 14 YEARS.
Dress it up all you wish however they were plus since there was a Con government over all that time, how could an opposition shoot the idea down over the government of the day?

She's becoming more and more a disappointment.

All she's doing is running up the backsides of Farage and his awful divisive gang.
I don't really want to see the Conservatives as weak as they are right now.
However all she's doing is singing the Reform lots unsavoury more prejudicial divisive song.
