This is explained in Sarah’s book. Essentially Molly was the children’s swim coach and primary career, because she didn’t work and in the months leading up to Jason’s death she would stop telling him when the children had events on like training, competitions or doctors appointments. Sarah was unwell and Molly refused to divulge the results of her blood tests with Jason or tell him when or where the doctors appointments where. She also intentionally give him the wrong time so he would show up late and then she would complain that he was a useless father that didn’t care for his kids. This was part of setting up her image as their true parent and him as abusive. There’s an email from Jason to Molly where he requests that everything that relates to his children must be corresponded through email because he cannot trust her to relay information verbally anymore

…it’s like a movie plot, isn’t it…?…I mean, I’ve seen that manipulative plot so many times only this is obviously real and Jason was brutally murdered and there was no ending of any justice for his life…that all really explains though his comment on the phone/recording when he said for Molly not to send his children away because that wasn’t her place…and actually how controlled he was with how much he was being manipulated…

I also read about her ex boyfriend who 3 years before the murder happened had actually written a book about his relationship with Molly and the abuse and mental health issues she had. He says they were still a couple when Moly went to Ireland initially

…I’ve skimmed that link but I’m going to have a proper read of it now…I wonder if Tom, Molly’s father…his whole involvement was a spontaneous protection of her when the events were happening but it somehow feels when he told his wife to go back to sleep…?…that he was already compliant with some of it before then and what she was doing or who she was…?….I’m so glad of the extended family that Jack and Sarah have, though……but if Jason considered Molly to be the mother that she says she was …?…then why didn’t he have it changed so that if anything happened to him, she would parent the children for their lives…?….he never did that, though….

The part about the mother hearing her daughter screaming upstairs and then she just rolled over and went back to sleep while Tom went upstairs to see what was going on was pretty bizarre as well, I mean really? you hear your daughter scream and you just go back to sleep?

And yeah, he was clearly on the verge of leaving her and taking them back to Ireland, I think she probably got wind of that and thought if she killed him she'd get to keep the kids

…it’s just not believable…I mean, apparently Molly was suffering such domestic abuse that she was advised to take recordings of Jason’s anger ….and then in the night she heard her daughter screaming and she knew that her grandchildren were in the house but she took heed of her husband’s advise and went back to sleep…?…I mean, no…that just didn’t happen….the only way that would have happened is if she had also been drugged as was suspected with Jason…

….I found this just now, you might have already seen it as you’re obviously familiar with the case for a while now…but this lady does crime podcasts and this looks quite interesting…

Yeah and they probably would have had a very hard time having healthy relationships with her as their example and teacher. Jasons sisters family seem like such a stable and well adjusted family, I would say they did wonders for helping two very traumatised children and showing them what real love and healthy relationships look like
