Basically this is a thread for us all to keep track of everything Keir Starmer has done wrong (he has quite a few things already tbh) since he has been PM.
I'll leave his most unpopular policy for someone else to say. I want to nominate the age verification policy that he has enforced on a fair few sites and pages (and yes I will include the Porn ones in this) as parental locks are a thing at the end of the day. We don't need Spotify or Wikipedia to also have age verifications either, because it starts to feel like it's not about protecting children at that point does it? ![]() That's my pick from Starmer's woeful reign as PM.

What has he done wrong? Well..... would be quicker to say what's he done right. The answer is nothing. Utter scumbucket.

I was going to bypass these type of threads however since Mock made it, I will add my bit.
I cannot stand Starmer, I'd welcome just about anyone other than him as leader, although I could say that about every other Party too. However whoever won the election with the horrendous legacy of the last lot, even had they won, there was going to be wrongs and failings just in even trying to sort out the shambolic mess of the previous 10 years at least. It is a horrendous mess. Which meant though more correct, appropriate and more compassionate policymaking was more vital to have to be enacted. There's 3 wrongs for me mainly that he's done. One not yet done, so I'll hold fire a little there. 1, the winter fuel payment. That was despicable and should never have been thought of let alone done. Although corrected now the stress of last year to pensioners cannot be changed. 2. This isn't done yet but it's NOT ruled out. The making the points more to claim disability benefits, IF this government does that it will be an absolute disgrace. 3, for me, this one is really annoying me, and it is his backside crawling to Trump and even in part to this vile Reform lot under Farage,. Starmer frankly on the domestic front has failed a lot in this first year. Apart from his crawling to Trump, internationally he does seem to have built a good rapport with other Countries. However he needs to find a backbone and call out Trump on several worrying international issues. Unfortunately Starmer is there now until the next election. Which ONLY he can call. It's rare that Labour dispose of leaders in government and even in opposition too. Unless he really starts to listen though, the list of failings from me as to him will rise more. I'm not bothered about the Farmers though, they SHOULD be paying inheritance tax, they should never have been exempt from it in my view. While anyone else eligible for it has to pay it. |

I largely do agree with you that he had an uphill battle in his first year to deal with, due to what the Tories had done prior. I also support Labour backing him, as this country will never find it's footing if we keep having our Government kicking the leader out of the leadership position. I really do think that he needs to calm down on his weird controlling behaviour over the Internet though, and reverse the age verification policy.

Starmer is too wooden and unlikeable, I think he would make a great Foreign Secretary as he is a pretty good diplomat, poor leader though he is just not strong enough

The cabinet is busy feathering their own individual nests and that includes Starmer. They care more about that than the people they are supposed to represent.
Immigration is at a tipping point. The government needs to act fast to resolve it. If not, i could see a situation where this government is kicked out before completion of it's term |

Had the overall majority been more about 30/40 then possibly. Not one of over 150 still at least though that Starmer has. There's no way Labour MPs would vote for an election and any vote of confidence from the Conservatives would be massively beaten. He's got still 4 years, ( that's virtually a full term still of government), and he and his government I agree have to act on the immigration issue and hopefully with other Parties, get a more reasoned rhetoric about it and not the more like hate preaching scapegoating of Farage's Reform mob. That's another issue too though, because other than perhaps the conservatives sadly under Badenoch. There's NO other Party currently in parliament who would want to risk a Farage led Reform extreme government, so I can't see any votes forthcoming for another election myself. |

The Thatcher government had virtually a war with the mining communities, her poll tax period too was crippling and caused massive hardship and deep worry for families. With rioting, which like last years should be termed serious crimes, no way should criminal dissent or riots bring down the the democratic process. ANY government giving in to that would be setting a frightening and extremely dangerous precedent for the future of governance by any Parties in the UK. I can't see that happening myself. We're still not and never should be a Nation where the more extreme try to bring about mob rule. |
