![]() Many democrats have toned down on average imo, but the party is definitely split with certain politicians carefully selecting their language (ie Gavin Newsom) to take advantage of increasing rhetoric, but still have an out. I suspect it's many more of those in the party itself though that are starting to see it's not helping them at all electorally in the polls to fashion themselves around these figures. So there's a slow change in temperature there as more people seem to accept that there's no road for this to continue if there is any hope for progressive views to remain mainstream politically... That shouldn't be the primary motivator for determining the strength of rhetoric coming from any party, but that's been the trend. The Democrats have always been generations ahead of Republicans when it came to being communicators, especially the utilization of social media. They've always been better masters at managing their own messaging. But now right-leaning folk and Republicans have learned from and dissected these tactics and so seem to have mastered countering them. So imo, we've been looking at two parties that were working against themselves trying to avoid a complete reform from the public.. the Republican party managed to tackle this sooner out of existential necessity. Democrats I think are struggling with remaking themselves within the new status quo as they're forced to own tendencies within their own party that are really damaging to them politically...

Yes. On X, if multiple people share the same video and you scroll past different posts containing it, the video reloads in each post.
If the posts use the same embed of the video (same tweet ID), X sometimes keeps the playback position across appearances in your feed. • If the video was natively uploaded once and people are retweeting or quoting that original post, it will usually resume where you left off. For rustigal and Livia. I hope this clears it up for you. Seemed to be having a hard time understanding.

If you look on Twitter, they have a picture of the possible suspect and it seems to match!
Really hope they catch him.

We're the product if the social media platform is free. They take the data and every little interaction, build an algorithm on top of it and then sell off or utilize the data for both business and political purposes... Elon is making money from currying influence and having that much access to our private data and controls over both algorithms and the way things are measured (metrics).. it gives him a lot of clout when making deals outside of the network and that is putting his thumb on the scale...
Edit: All forms of display on a website/computer are manipulated by nature so the data collected is easier to interpret. Sometimes they're manipulated in very subtle ways and that can play a big influence over how we both interpret and internalize what we read/see... it's called "dark patterns" in UI/UX.

I stay off it because of its graphic content. Thats why I use Youtube. I once saw a beheading video, pressed play all by myself. Sat there on my computer, big screen. It effected me for months. But funny thing is, YouTube is where I saw the whole Iryna Zarutska video. I thought it would have been paused just before the strike. 8 know that's going to effect me for a few weeks. Her tiny frame, her shock, and disbelief and almost acceptance of her fate is something that is going to be hard to shift. Your post though, very insightful. I regularly delete my viewing and search history just so I can start at tje begining againil if I'm going to far down a rabbit hole. ![]() |

When you think of it, to every sane person that argues the toss about stuff on socials and forums, his death should really make us all stop and think that we are all equally responsible in a way.
Stoking fires, never backing down, refusing to accept another angle. We've probably all been guilty off some of those things. Really though, it should make us all take a step backwards in the disagreement side of things and we should all really, as sane people be looking for bridges of peace. Can we all try being a bit more that way for a week or two, see how things go? |

I did not watch those videos intentionally though I'd seen them served around me, I had the option not to play/auto-play. Husband explained them to me what he saw as he and other law enforcement had a hard look at them, so I got the professionalized version and not the play-by-play explanation...

Journalist and college professor Stacey Patton goes viral by penning a stunningly powerful statement about how she was on Charlie Kirk’s “digital hit list” and recounting the horror that he inflicted on her.
We cannot allow this tragic assassination to whitewash Kirk’s legacy… “I am on Charlie Kirk’s hit list,” Patton wrote to her 215,000 followers on Facebook. “His so-called ‘Professor Watchlist,’ run under the umbrella of Turning Point USA, is nothing more than a digital hit list for academics who dare to speak truth to power. I landed there in 2024 after writing commentary that inflamed the MAGA faithful. And once my name went up, the harassment machine roared to life.” “For weeks my inbox and voicemail were deluged. Mostly white men spat venom through the phone: ‘bitch,’ ‘*****,’ ‘n****r.’ They threatened all manner of violence,” she continued. “They overwhelmed the university’s PR lines and the president’s office with calls demanding that I be fired,” Patton wrote. “The flood was so relentless that the head of campus security reached out to offer me an escort, because they feared one of these keyboard soldiers might step out of his basement and come do me harm.” “And I am not unique,” she added. “Kirk’s Watchlist has terrorized legions of professors across this country. Women, Black faculty, queer scholars, basically anyone who challenged white supremacy, gun culture, or Christian nationalism suddenly found themselves targets of coordinated abuse,” Patton wrote. “Some received death threats. Some had their jobs threatened. Some left academia entirely. Kirk sent the loud message to us: speak the truth and we will unleash the mob!” she continued. “That is the culture of violence Charlie Kirk built. He normalized violence. He curated it, monetized it, and sicced it on anyone who dared to puncture his movement’s lies,” she wrote. “And now, in the wake of his shooting, there’s all this national outpouring of mourning, moments of silence, yellow prayer hands, and tributes painting him as a civil debater,” Patton continued. “But the truth is that Kirk and his foot soldiers spent years terrorizing educators, trying to silence us with harassment and fear!” “And now the same violence he unleashed on others has come full circle.” “But what i find especially jarring is the dissonance in public mourning for a smug white man whose life work was actively hostile to certain groups,” she continued. “Kirk spent years demonizing LGBTQ people, mocking gun survivors, spewing racism about Black folks, and pushing policies that literally shorten lives.” “It is so revolting to watch a bipartisan wave of grief sweep over this hateful racist as if he was a neutral community servant,” she concluded. This is pure unvarnished truth from Patton. Charlie Kirk did not deserve what happened to him, but nor did his victims deserve the hell that he unleashed on them. If Americans are going to build a more peaceful future for ourselves we must condemn political violence while also condemning the hateful, bigoted rhetoric that made Kirk a multimillionaire.
