I am using the energy some of the right use to excuse punishment for hateful racist and homophobic abuse. I thought words were fine? I thought the world was lost because people were being punished for hurty words? I thought any kind of consequence off the back off saying something mean was quelling of freedom of speech?

Can you explain why you are against people being punished for saying racist and homophobic remarks, for example, despite it inciting hatred towards people, but commenting on how someone is grieving is fine for job loss?

Can you explain why Jimmy Kimmel should lose his job for questioning how Trump grieves, but Charlie Kirk should build a career off saying 'stoning gays is Gods perfect law on sexual matters', the Civil Rights Act is a mistake and constantly suggested DEI is the blame for poor outcomes or disasters that occur.

He can still say whatever he wants. It's just broadcasters have decided they don't want to platform him. Tucker was fired for his views iirc and since then he has gone independent and he's doing better now.

What were doing is insanity because yes absolute free speech for tv... But at this rate why not throw up everyone including a few far right nationalists. Let them host a few shows as well and promote their thoughts. It will headline every single night but the ratings will be a disaster. But that's already the reality for most of these shows. They keep pushing their content further and further to the fringes. The public don't want it.

FCC involvement/not involvement aside, the point was to cancel someone with terrible value (in ratings) whilest sending the message to others to "Knock it Off". Fox could kill off a few more as well because I find it unwatchable with the permanent outrage of their hosts. So much of our TV is an unwatchable mess. MSNBC is bad enough they are getting a name change because their owners don't want it under the NBC banner anymore. It all sucks. Sorry, but not sorry.

When I had Cable, I used to just pick a news channel that pissed me off the least during each cycle when trying to follow elections/important events but most all of it was mindrot. Late night is influenced by that format now and it's very sad. I very rarely laugh at most entertainment shows now as they are all terrible.

We also forget that Trump himself was almost shot to death. In the past, had a President been targeted, that would've been more than enough to shut down rhetoric across all the networks. We used to take all threats much more seriously. Many other positions in govt were given similar respects also. Something changed, of course, and now we live in a strange media environment that frankly is untenable.

I apologise, I understood him to say it was "gods perfect law" being his own opinion on the matter. If this is an incorrect then I apologise. (I actually didn't say he specifically said gays should be stoned like others however)

Regardless, however, he still made a career of saying some extremely hateful things, I just named a couple.
