The impression I get is that we’re not watching actual people, actual characters this season. At-least the personalities of last year (with the blandest of exceptions) were well-drawn in a way that could be gleamed on-screen, whether you liked them or not. I haven’t seen much of this series yet but it just feels like I’m staring at a great-big wall of nothing. I don’t see how it’s going to keep most people entertained for a whole series.

In total fairness, I too felt like that at this point in last year's series. I couldn't get a read on most of them for that first week, they were all so dull. Even Ali hadn't yet started to sap the house of all its happiness and innocence.
