About 90% of all Halal and meat is stunned so banning it would probably be more straightforward from that perspective. It's Kosher meat that is non-stunned and I just don't think it would be possible to ban it due to potential religious discrimination.

The argument against that would be, "why are British traditions less important than religious ones?"

Way I see it, animal rights either matter, or don't.

I don't disagree with you at all on that.
There would be an almighty uproar no doubt but I'd certainly support the move.
It's a very fair point you've raised.

I agree. I don't eat kosher meat because I am an animal lover. I eat ethically reared, humanely slaughtered meat. I follow kosher rules other than that... In my mind, kosher and halal killing is archaic. But I think people would be shocked and appalled if they knew how much of the meat they eat in the UK is halal.

I wasn't expecting that so welcome it 100%

This is a really good step forward IF it's put in place and SECURED too.

The people of the Country who couldn't give a damn about animal welfare won't agree but that says everything about them really.
I am happy to see that you and I still share some common ground. Happy Christmas to you and yours, Joey.

A lot of imported meat is halal too which is an added complication if you want to ban it. Lots of non-Muslim countries produce a lot of halal meat because the export markets are lucrative and help meat processors make a profit (vast majority of New Zealand lamb and beef is halal for example). That's especially true given that we don't consume all cuts of the animal in this country so often it's only Islamic countries and communities where there is demand for some parts of the animal
