Female Professor friend of mine, sent me this
message in response to my post: [“Really excellent that you’re posting on this very important topic. Parents often fail to appreciate the significance and long term impact of engaging with their children. I understand why you mentioned Mum’s in your thread but as I know you fully appreciate, Dad’s are equally responsible”] |

I wish she'd come on and tell us why you only said mum's.

It's easy to stereotype, and the mental image that may come to mind when discussing parents letting screens raise their kids may well be a Vicky Pollard type.
But that's just as lazy as automatically assuming... well, anything. |

Unfortunately successive governments have pushed for everyone to be at work paying tax, stay at home parents are looked down on, now parents are trying to juggle work, and childcare and guess who loses.... They need to start paying parents a proper wage to stay at home, many would jump at the change

Excessive screen time for children is horrible. I see the effects of it all the time, children can't develop properly in any way if they don't actually socialise with human beings or experience boredom or problem solve etc.. My toddler does not own a device and probably won't for as long as I can manage. I also have got the TV stored away and probably won't have it in the living room for a very long time. We go outdoors every single day and usually twice a day, we play with blocks, play doh and books most of all. It's not all mothers. My partner is more relaxed about screen exposure than I am.

Great, she (Professional Professor) sent more:
[“I think there is a real issue with parents being able to earn a living and not becoming reliant on occupying children with technology. However, at the same time, I think all children need to learn how to engage with technology, so it’s a very difficult balance. There has always been an underestimation of how much dialogue matters for anyone learning. The development of children’s critical thinking abilities are dependent on this. If technology is used for dialogue ( with AI) it can be helpful. However, if a child is just put in front of the screen for dopamine hits, then it can lead to the problems that the research is alerting people to”] |
