First and foremost, my opinion on this is on the basis everything he is said is true, which of course it may not be.

I've spent the last decade eye-rolling at Brooklyn as he obtains platforms thanks to his wealth and status (by extension, his parents wealth and status) to try his hand [poorly] at his hobbies as if he was a professional in the subject. His photography book was particularly bad for him, he was the subject of a lot of critique and mocking at the age of 17. His parents have some responsibility for that, but this is to preface that I am by no means a Brooklyn fan.

However, his version of events creates a toxic picture. It's not so much about the individual examples he gives, some of which are mild and others which are just bizarre and unhealthy, but it's about the picture it paints of ownership D&V seem to feel over their own child.

While it's easy to say BB should be grateful for all D&V have done, and the opportunities having them as parents will have obviously granted him, if such opportunities are paired with a controlling parentage, where you are treated like a business partner and your time is only valued if it helps build the family brand, then it all means nothing. Brooklyn didn't ask to be born, and didn't ask to be born into wealth and fame. D&V did what they were responsible in doing: raising a child and providing for said child but they chose to do that publicly and performatively from the get-go. There is probably a raft of celebrity/social media babies finally developing their prefrontal cortex realising their entire life has been orchestrated by what looks best to strangers on the internet and resenting their parents for it.

Their treatment of Nicola seems particularly gross and unwelcoming and Victoria hijacking their wedding dance is beyond the cliche of 'unhealthy overbearing mother' trope movies like to play out.

Having said all of that, the Peltz family have their own issues and Nicola's reputation is questionable to say the least. There is no smoke without fire and there has been a lot of smoke - loads of allegations about abusive behaviour to staff and just general awful behaviour to get her way. Has he just gone from being controlled by one rich family to being controlled by another? Quite possibly. Did the Beckham's have rightful concerns about Nicola and the family he was marrying into? Quite possibly. Should they manipulate awkwardness to try and cause a rift in Brooklyn and Nicola's relationship? No.

It's a shame he has burnt his bridges, particularly when the family he will be left with is equally as questionable - if not more - but we also just don't know how his upbringing has affected him mentally. While sad, it's okay to walk away from family. Children don't owe their parents anything. Responsibility follows choice, of which David and Victoria made when they had him. If they screwed their child up because they raised him in an unhealthy, demanding, controlling environment which bled into adulthood, he's every right to cut ties.

I feel sorry for him. I totally buy into his life being orchestrated by what is good for the Beckham brand. I can't imagine what that is like. Sounds like they probably all need therapy.

I cannot shake the feeling this pattern will repeat with Nicola and her family in years to come and without help he'll just continue to leap from one controlling relationship/family dynamic to the next. It feels like it's classic self-sabotage.
