Sir Keir Starmer has defended awarding a peerage to his former communications chief after claiming Lord Doyle "did not give a full account" over his links with a convicted sex offender.

Speaking at Prime Minister's Questions, Sir Keir reiterated he had removed Lord Doyle from Labour's parliamentary party.

--------------------------

Does the PM think the public are completely stupid? Is he familiar at all with the concept that people may lie to you? He is basically telling everyone he is a gullible idiot and we all know that is complete fiction.

Also, am i the only one that thinks Doyle bears a remarkable resemblance to Rolf Harris?

No he really does, and yet again it beggars belief that this guy was elevated to the Lords..... .

With regard to Starmer, this was front page of the Times the paedo link but he still went ahead

Starmer got very angry when Ed Davey said one paedo sympathiser is careless two is beyond comprehension

i think back to the Madeleine disappearance and the parents having a hotline to tony blair and gordon brown. It always seemed odd, but put beside what's happening now, there are too many coincidences

I think Life Peers should be abolished, and Hereditary Peers and Lords Spiritual should be the only members of House of Lords.

Controversial? Maybe a bit. But it's historically significant, some of the bloodlines go back to the Norman Conquest.

AND - how is it democratic for the PM to just elevate people they want for their Cabinet, who haven't been voted into Parliament by the public?

the lords can't stop the government from doing anything that is in their manifesto, and it has very limited power on anything else. It can only slow things down a bit. So, what is the point in having them at all
