Default A Young Lady was sexually assaulted in a Travelodge

She was in her room,
The man told the Travelodge Receptionist
He was her boyfriend.

She then gave him a key card.

It was brought up by an MP at PMQ's today
So PM Starmer told Travelodge to go
to the Commons Committee

She was due to, but then cancelled.

[A group of MPs has demanded urgent action from
Travelodge after a man was able to talk
his way into a woman’s hotel room in
Maidenhead and sexually assault her while
she slept.

The case has sparked outcry after it was
revealed 29-year-old Kyran Smith obtained
a key card to the victim's room simply by claiming
to be her boyfriend and providing her name.

That's worrying. I hope the receptionist is sacked.

I would think she was.

But the CEO Lady agreed Jo Boydell
to go to the Commons.

But Today refused to go?

My sister told me about this
Maidenhead is my closest town
It has a holiday inn a mile away from the town centre that’s housed illegal migrants for years

Highly unlikely to be the same The assault took place in December 2022 at the Travelodge in Maidenhead. Smith and the victim had attended the same party before returning to the hotel in the early hours.

Travel lodge said that staff followed the security protocols and therefore did nothing wrong

I feel sure handing out a key card to someone who said he was a guest's boyfriend is not following security protocols. And if it is, everyone should give Travelodge a wide berth.

You beat me to it !!

Their security protocols/ procedures are not fit for purpose .. I would imagine a decent lawyer could get a substantial settlement for the poor young woman in question

I never feel really safe in hotels. For a start, housekeeping feel free to let themselves in despite 'do not disturb' signs. If I'm travelling alone I have a small door wedge in my case, takes up no room at all, that I stick under the bottom of the door.

Yeah there’s little gadgets for sale on eBay to secure your doors for that very reason

I've heard about disgusting things like this happening especially when women travel alone, hotel staff really are stupid and sloppy it seems. You'd think they'd be security and safeguarding protocol checks. So basically any tom dick & Harry could for e.g pretend to be my boyfriend or husband if I ever stayed at a hotel alone!??...yeah I'm never travelling alone that's for sure ! .

I've even heard of cases where the receptionist will shout out the woman's room number ,and anyone behind can hear it and then follow the woman. A lady staying in a hotel even had to tell the hotel staff member, why he shouldn't be broadcasting her room number like that . There's even been stories of guys hiding under hotel beds... like wtf .

yeah its the arrogance. It's not just women that are at risk, it's everyone. How easy is it to "just" rob someone

That's unacceptable, why are they giving our other people's room numbers and keys?

…it’s pretty staggering that the key to a female’s room was given to a male because of his claim of being a boyfriend…that kind of takes some getting any thought around tbh and horrendous for the lady who was sexually assaulted…I’m a bit confused by the story though, I have to say…all articles say that this assault took place in 2022 and yet (it seems…)…as though the attacker’s sentencing was just last month…?…that’s some delay, was there a huge delay in arresting him…?….the articles are all very short on information and why this is only being discussed in parliament now and not following on from the breach of security that led to the attack…

…it is absolutely and I’m trying to figure out how it could have happened, I haven’t stayed in a Travel Lodge for many years but the security to even get into the building was always so good, in that you needed a code just to get into reception…(…who didn’t work through the night and after daytime hours..)…that was also to protect the staff who were generally lone workers …but I’m also trying to fathom why it’s taken so long to go to trial and sentencing and for Travel Lodge’s breach of security to be brought up in parliament …this all seems incredible, actually…

are they being protected because they are a supplier of beds to the government?

This all just feels very dodgy

….hmmmm, it’s just all quite unbelievable…(…I mean I’m not inferring that the attack itself isn’t anything other than true…)…but why it took 4 years for the sentencing and imprisoning and why CEO of TravelLodge have only now offered to meet the victim to ‘discuss the improvement of procedures’…I mean, how weird is that wording in itself, they can improve procedures by not giving room details and room keys to people who aren’t guests and haven’t been allocated that room…and also only now, 4 years after the attack…?…is TravelLodge saying that going forward they’re going to review the policies on room security…it’s of such an ‘utmost importance to them’ that it’s taken 4 years for changes to be demanded by parliament…which I presume is what their requested meeting will be…
