the media landscape has changed. In my youth we had 2 tv channels. New content was produced on a small budget and the viewers looked forward to new content with great anticipation and people appreciated what they got.

Fast forward to today and the choice of media is virtually unlimited and budgets have gone through the roof. It's just not possible to compare now with then because it's not comparing like with like

I think expecting strong character development and good in-depth writing is something that every decade should be aspiring for personally.

Instead writers try to hide behind being "artsy” and "prestige” so that nobody will notice that the writing is style over any substance whatsoever.
