Vanessa is this the first time you’ve looked up into the sky?

Vanessa surely hasn’t got to her age without knowing what a chem trail is. Surely

Can you explain what you mean further, as I assume you don’t mean chem trails?

Contrails
Those white trails you see behind airplanes are called Contrails (Condensation Trails). They are not smoke — and not anything being “sprayed.” They are simply ice crystals formed in the upper atmosphere. How Do Contrails Form? When a jet engine burns fuel, it produces: • Water vapor • Carbon dioxide • Tiny exhaust particles At cruising altitude (30,000–40,000 feet), the outside air temperature can drop below -40°C. When the hot exhaust gases mix with this extremely cold air: 1️⃣ Water vapor condenses 2️⃣ It instantly freezes 3️⃣ Tiny ice crystals form 4️⃣ Visible white trails appear It is the same effect as seeing your breath on a cold day. Why Do Some Contrails Disappear Quickly? It depends on atmospheric humidity: • Dry air → Contrails fade fast • Moist air → Contrails spread and may form thin cirrus clouds Aviation & Atmosphere Contrails are a normal physical phenomenon in high-altitude flight. While persistent contrails can influence cloud formation and climate slightly, they are a natural result of jet engine combustion interacting with cold air. A simple reaction of physics in the sky. |

If it is the above, I have seen them since I was a kid, we used to lie in the fields and look at the cloud shapes and the trails left by the jets ferrying people away

Contrails are a bit more visible this time of year if there is more humid air in the atmosphere. I've always lived near multiple airports including an air base so got used to them. It's nice to see too when jets pass through in formation, sometimes 6-7 at a time, then it's long rows of them. Have seen that around sunset time also which looked cool. I always just assumed they were doing training exercises but don't see them as often as we used to in the 90s.

Yeah same. Have you really never seen these before Vanessa? Or is it something else you saw?
