I also hate American humor. British humor is ironic, irreverent and, well, hilarious. American comedy is stupid. And unfortunately our Americanized culture eats it up. But heres a hint : Most people who watch Comedy Central over here are teens. Most people who watch Dave are adults. Our young watch the comedy America's adults watch. Most conventional American comedy shows run something along the lines of :

''Where is my birthday cake?''
''Margery left it in the car, dude!''
''With the dog?''
''Oh noes! The dog!''
''The dog! Oh noes!''

And yes, Americans on Xbox Live are retarded. And yes, I understand every country has it's dopes and smarts, but with regard to the visible exported culture and politics, America is ... well ... abhorrent. Middle class suburban America for the most part is a nightmare. Especially the conservative kind.

Just head to conservapedia and get ready to laugh. Or switch on Fox News. Gawd bless Americah! You ess ay! Whoo!

Somebody on Xbox Live once said to me ''you guys have nothing dude, we got Schwarzenegger mannn!''.
You caught me. Trying to save my ass after a late night comment last night. Shame I was doing my AP Physics homework too.

Anyone on Xbox Live with a mic is retarded. I don't play it myself but just listening to other people play it (whether they're joking around idiodically or getting WAY too into the game, whether they're Australian, American, British, or any other race for that fact) makes me cringe for the state of society. Either way: I don't hate my country, but our TV is the shittest thing ever.

DUmbass! YOu assume that I am from London? ANd you call people stupid. For your info, I am from Africa. And I have spent 5 years in France, french is my native language, and we are a french colony, so basically close culture. And I have lived 10 years in the US.
Because someone lives in London, you think they are from here? Idiot!!

And again, your teens are considered the dumbest educated people in Europe, so glass houses comes to mind.

ANd yeah, thats why all of your TV stations export the unfunny american shows. Even the ones that are cancelled that no one gives a fuuk about, are airing here now. YOu call americans dumb, then its dumb and dumber basically.

You hit the nail on the head. I don't bother even using it anymore. Either people are obnoxious, or nobody actually talks. Seriously. Unless you are with your mates in a highly competitive game I have NEVER heard people in any games I have played on it actually talk strategy or whatnot.

As for hating/loving my country, I love the attitude of the typical Irish person [my house is falling down, I have no job, sure jaysus we will be alright. Lets have a dance]. But I am not patriotic about the country itself. Patriotism is just a delusion. A system of control. Did you actually choose your country before birth? Of course not.

Borders existed and borders were broken. Countries were discovered and countries were conquered. It's nothing. Just a plot of land a political system governs.

I think you should know the difference between importing and exporting, and realize which country Patrick is actually from, before calling people dumb.

They dont get your shows? LMAO!!! BEcause your shows are so difficult to understand? Give me a *****g break. They dont like it, because they dont think its funny! Nah, the major networks like to make original comedy on their station, not imported stuff. People know about the original The Office here, but its easier for a station to manage the life of their original shows.

Blame the lack of showing British shows in America on BBC America. When they say showcasing some of the best in British television, they mean the Weakest Link, Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares, The Graham Norton Show, Top Gear, and Cash in the Attic. None of which are humor.

Fonejacker gets aired on Comedy Central here, adult swim. shows The Mighty Boosh along with other British shows on Sundays...don't say that Americans haven't had the exposure to British humor. We've experienced it and still like our own better.

Some of our best humor is The Office (which has grown past its earlier seasons and developed its own humor) and 30 Rock. You're being a bit ignorant if you're basing your opinions off of the likes of the ABC comedy shows. NBC is the comedy leader here.

Bravo, you missed the entire ****ing point of my post. Americans don't like irony in comedy because they don't get it. I am not going against America, it's just a fact. In fact, it's a well known cultural joke even Americans are in on.

''Dont go trying to make it like your comedy is so great''? Im not British, you ****ing moron. And neither is Patrick. Different countries like different types of humor. Thats all I was saying. You essentially missed that entire point and condemned yourself to your own argument by saying most countries dont like British humor.

I dont care where he is from, regardless, the fact is, if you think you are more intelligent than the americans for some reason, delusional is what I call you. The only thing that I can say for sure they dont have, that most modern coutry do, is general culture. But thats because they happen to be self suffiient in most things, and their society was buit from within. We, on this side of the world, had to deal with imperialism, and thats why our culture is more international.
Other than that, its plain silly nationalism, based on self delusion.

Exactly, Americans can call British humor unoriginal and extremely dry while Brits can call American humor crude and mindless. Family Guy is the prime example of mindless, but rest assure that Family Guy is only popular with the younger crowd, much like whoever was pointing out earlier the tastes of the British youth who like American TV. The same age group around the world enjoys the same TV shows.

I'm a bit dumbfounded at people ridiculing the Americans. I mean starting on the ground with TV, USA has produced some genius shows:

The Sopranos, The Simpsons, Frasier, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Seinfeld, Will & Grace, X-Files, Bewitched, ER, Friends [well, early on], Star Trek, Cheers...

ignoring most of today's juggernauts: Heroes, Lost, Law & Order, CSI, FlashForward, True Blood, etc.

Humour/TV aside, when you look at the music/cinema industries, and other fields: politics, science, technology, literature, art...they're certainly not stupid.

Thats just the way it is.
But imo, they produce, some of the best TV shows in the world. But Americans definitely over produce, due to all the diferent TV networks. I personally think most british TV shows are craap, so do people I know, from Africa, France, Canada, even India. BUt to each their own, I have no problem with that. I watch some TV shows here, but hardly any.

Of course not. Thats because you are examining the upper echelons of society. I think most people in this thread are thinking of the typical ''gawd bless America'' American of conservative suburbia. And there politics are rotten to the very core man.

Always preferred English & Irish music and literature, but that's just opinion of course.

These days, Britain produces the boring, generic rock bands. America produces the whingey, whinney, shitlicking ones [see : Paramore].

I'll just say this: To the American-bashing Irish here, I'll bring it back to my earlier point: America has produced some of the world's greatest leaders in politics, civil rights, entertainment, and math/science. America and its culture pervades nearly every aspect of your life everyday in a major way, not only on a humor level. Ireland's claim to fame is Bono and the potato famine.

Just like the great quote says, "When America sneezes the whole world catches a cold."

What on earth has that got to do with culture? Your talking about political and social awareness. Not culture. Of course Americans have culture. It is the most dominant culture in the world!

I'm not getting involved in this argument but did you actually say what I think you said with regard to Ireland?

OK, I think I got it crossed because I translated a frenc expression (Culture generale), which basically means, your knowledge of the world's culture. So I guess its not the right thing to say in English. I thought it was.

You DO know most of us don't actually WANT to catch what America spreads and actively resent it?

And you DO you know anything about your own country? The Irish have a huge political and social dynasty in all aspects of American life. A large percentage of Americans claim either German or Irish ancestry. We built quiet a lot of the east coast.

Come to think of it, you Americans are incredibly young. Your all just comprised of transplants from other countries. What is an American? You are US! And you just proved what everybody has been saying in this thread about the sheer ignorance of your country :

The Irish only gave the world Bono & The Potato Famine? I bashed the underbelly of America when acknowledging and respecting it's great achievements and dominant culture. You claim Ireland just gave the world Bono and a Famine.

Read some ****ing Joyce and get back to me.

Each country has its own possibility for criticism in a certain sect.

America has 304,059,724 people.
The UK has 60,943,912 people.
Ireland has 4,156,119 people.

Since America has more than 75x the amount of people in Ireland, there are more chances for criticism. The entire world has radically religious groups too, except it's magnified because of the magnitude of people in America and the world-focus on American affairs.

By the way, if you're trying to make out that Americans are unsophisticated, please learn the difference between "their" and "there" before you ridicule us.
