Well tbh before you say its 'pointless' or what ever, it's actually quite a sacred part of religion. Before it became some huge trend after the Jonas Brothers and Miley Cyrus, it was something for young Christians (or any other religion that does it) to prove their trust to God and keep themselves pure. It was also special because a lot of girls do it as a promise to their fathers (especially in America) rather than putting on a ring when you probably aren't even religious and saying you'll do it because Nick Jonas does it.

I know Christians my age that do it and it's only because their families are really devoted to Christianity. I would never do it myself but I wouldn't lay around either.
