It was actually kind of offensive in some ways... a westernized view of India, with a silly fairytale type story that glosses over the poverty porn we had to endure in the first half of the film, which ends with our hero winning a gameshow of all things. This tells me nothing of India really and more about how we have come to view it from afar.

It's a fictional film James not a documentary, most people didn't go and see it to learn about Indian culture they went to see it to be entertained and I for one was!!

It's a joke of a film and cheapens the plight of many in Mumbai and India, as well as the beauty of the country itself. Set it in the slums of Europe or America if you want to adhere to such a western style fairytale.

Don't be ridiculous! Why not set it in India??? lol, I think that it's offensive to Indians that you think only documentary-type films should be made there!!

I'm seeing this sensibly actually, and think it's kinda disgusting that they were allowed to make it in the first place.... sorry, feel really strongly about this waste of a film.

Thats very true. MOst people who have seen it, really liked it. I was very underwhelmed when I saw it. I thought it was cheesy and predictable, but, probably because of the expectations. I saw it, after all the hype, so I was expecting something amazing, and I didnt get that. Its an OK film though, for me.

And BTW, the Bollywood actresses, are the hotest!

Hey Wildcat, I'm after watching a film about a man from Senegal living in America and I think it's one of my films of the year. It's called Goodbye Solo. Have you seen it?

NO! NEver seen it, never even heard of it. BUt I just googled, after reading your post. Sounds a lot like me!

disgusting?? It would only be disgusting if they were saying it was a true story James. You need to lighten up I think.

The actor is from the Ivory Coast though but still, it was just a lovely character study and I enjoyed it. If you like artsy films you'll like it, but be warned: it's not action packed or anything.

I didnt think it was tasteless! WHy? The only thing for me, was it was predictable, and just average. Again, I think, this has a lot to do, with all the hype surrounding the movie, and the ads about it. I think, the people who enjoyed it the most, are the once who didnt know anything about it, when they saw.

Poverty porn wrapped up in a lovely little westernized fairytale that cheapens the plight of the people who struggle in these areas. The film itself isn't particularly liked in India itself. It literally has nothing to say about the place and deals with nothing.... all an excuse to have this silly fairytale with an american gameshow being the eventual salvation for the slumdog. Patronising rubbish.

as I've said before James : lighten Up!!! and I had a quick look there on google and some people in India like it, some don't!!
