That's the point though, your either into it or your not. I don't see how a film is automatically pompous just because it's not a loud, dumb action movie.

Besides, they didn't suddenly become pompous. The entire Trilogy was conceived as just that - a trilogy. The entire thing was written and planned before the first scene of the first movie was ever shot.

As for alienating the audience, that's what I mean by them not really being fit for mainstream consumption.
