Well atheism is virtually nonexistant in third world countries and the few people who don't follow God there are probably not poor.

Well, I'm sure people would hope for a higher power, whether or not they'd believe in a higher power or not is the question, I doubt coming close to death would make you a believer but rather a hoper!!

I agree. I think it is an instinctive reaction to the fear of death! One I guess we can never fully appreciate until that time comes!

I got married in a church, the reason was nothing to do with God though, at the time in Ireland you could only get married in a church or a registry office and the thought of getting married in a registry office isn't very appealing, Churches are prettier and I like that gothic feel!
