Default Do some use God's name to control and terrorise people

Do these people hide behind God - and use his name as an excuse to control and abuse. Are they basically just 'bully boys'.

ie. State prosecutor Gholam Hossein Mohseni Ejehei said the opposition leaders may face charges of 'supporting apostates', or those who go against God.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/worl...ie-people.html

Personally - I believe they do! Views!

You jumped in there a bit too quick Patrick. That is not what the thread is about.

I probably didn't phrase it very well. What I meant is that those that preach (in the article) are really the ones that abuse the name of God - by using his name to justify commiting offences against humanity.

Religion is a powerful tool, it gets used in politics and world affairs a lot. It's an easy way to win people over or scare them into doing what you say.

Only certain places though, would never work here. 'Opium of the masses' in an outdated statement imo

It wouldn't work on a mass scale here but it'd still have an effect, look at American elections. Playing the god card there can be the difference between winning and losing. In countries under the Sharia Law and such though, it's a tool that I'd guess probably gets abused easily.

Indeed, i'm just glad it's not like that here. America is too influenced by Religion which is dangerous, that is why China will become really powerful i'm thinking

Agree with everything said so far - simply can't abide how sanctimonious these people get - when really the rest of us can see them for the control freaks they actually are.

All that crap about executing those that go against the government and God - just mass murder by a bunch of bully boys determined to enforce their views - and control everyone else.

I do, don't I! Unfortunately - the world is full of them! A flaw of human nature I suppose!

Oh, definitely - women can be just as bullying - although with them it tends to be more verbal!
