He dumped her. She wanted him back for the longest time.

It was him and his PR team who set about trashing her to deflect blame away from the fact he dumped her broke up the family. And they did a great job. Of course, she made it easy for them.

Im amazed that you seem to believe everything they say. I doubt she stopped him seeing the kids at christmas. But it suits him to say that so he can swan off to Oz for a month.
