Betelgeuse. Aint that where Ford Prefect is from.

Astronomy is pretty humbling stuff. Moreso than any religion. Look up some of Carl Sagan's stuff on YouTube.

Planets? They are stars. Nobody knows how many planets are out there. If you took the Earth as the entire universe, the planets we do know go from where you are currently sitting to the wall in front of you. And that's probably being way too generous. The cosmos is beyond comprehension.

And what you have to remember is the universe as you know it is not the universe. Nobody could possibly imagine what the various different dimensions would look like from an outside perspective. Everybody seems to go about their daily lives completely oblivious to the fact that what their eyes see is only a perception of what things really look like.

I love all these ideas. Heck, who knows, the whole general mish mash could be a collective dream we are all experiencing from another plane.

I'm going to have to go and read some Hitchhiker now.

We only have a limited perspective of the world anyway. There is so much we can't see/hear e.g. we can't see UV rays or hear high pitched noises. They could be happening constantly for all we know.

That's a different discussion altogether really and, although I find it hard to believe that there is any God that resembles the ones preached by the various religions of our time, I've always believed that there's things out there that we haven't got the faintest understanding of and it would be ignorant, no arrogant for us to assume that we know definitively that no greater or higher power exists.

Word. Who are we to pretend we know a damn thing when confronted with images like these.

They are certainly very galaxy shaped lights. And we do know that an unknown, huge number of galaxies exist out there. So I really don't know where ILoveDC is coming from.

well the light from them has taken so long from them to get to us (billions and billions of years) that they have probably all exploded, and maybe even the new stars that were created from those explosions have exploded as well
