Question Big Brother 11 | Billboards & Other forms of Advertising.

How can we insure Big Brother 11's Launch Night in May is a massive ratings winner?

Lets not forget what a big high Celebrity Big Brother 7 left on, that may give BB11 a head start if you get me?

Part of the fact CBB7 got 6 Million in the launch was because Channel 4 used all their other channels like Music Channels, and E4 as an advantage and advertised like crazy on there.

Seriously I remember in Christmas I was flicking through the music channels and the CBB7 Flame Advert was constantly on.

I think if they can do this again, Big Brother 11 could potentially get the ratings CBB7s Launch got.

I would like BB11 to get higher, IMO if BB11 can stay above 3 Million alot of the time, it definiatly opens the door to more channels being intrested in it.

But what do you think Channel 4 WILL and SHOULD do to achive this?

I say Billboards more than anything, more people walk about to go out, go to work or school and that and drive around and are more likely to see massive billboards than they are a Advert on TV.

Billboards would look like this across the UK:

How amazing would it be to see the Big Brother Eye watching over the entire town?

Billboards is definiatly needed along with other forms of Advertising.
What do you think of the Billboard Ideas?

And what other ways could they advertise the final series?

It should be done. The launch of CBB7 got 6.7m officially, had no idea we would see ahywhere near them numbers after BB10.... so if they were to advertise billboards and strong like they did for CBB7, BB11 should launch with 7m+ comfortably.

No its not been confirmed but alot of people are saying it will be, it has been said by Channel 4 that its begining on May, I seen it earlier in the week but I cant remember for the life of me, where I seen that.

I would of prefered a June launch tbh but oh well the sooner the better, that means we will be getting Eye Flashes and that very soon now.

Well its the final one so maybe theyre past caring too much. Then again, maybe they wanna finish with a bang? But huge ratings would make them look foolish for dumping it.

People who follow BB will be aware by now when its on, roughly. Those who hate it will not be enticed after 10 years. Billboards or not.

Yes but people who watched BB3 for example maybe would want to see the last ever series even if they havnt seen the last few series just because they see billboards and its the last one maybe.

We obviously cant bring any viewers who have NEVER watched BB because its been 10 years and its impossible to do that. But bring back the BB3 and BB5 audience (which was always consistantly above 5m).

I think putting up billboards around the country would be a major help. What C4 have failed to do the last couple of years is maximize the potential of advertising.
I can remember the day BB7 launched the Sun or the DS had a massive two page advert of the logo.
I think they should go all out this year, with it being the last series. Pay to put an advert on ITV, perhaps in between BGT. They have advertised less important shows on ITV on a number of occassions.
Cinema trailers would be great too. The BBC advertise Doctor Who in the cinemas, which is fantastic.
If C4 want their flagship show to go out with a bang they need to step up their game with the advertising. Its common sense, which is something people at Big Brother havent got.

Love the mock ups by the way. Fantasic!

Yeah I think BB7 was advertised amazingly, I remember seeing a massive billboard for it beside the carphone warehouse.

I remember it was just a Massive Black Background with the amazing logo just staring at you.
No text or anything, was very affective.

They need to bring stuff like that back.

I agree Cinema Adverts would work brilliantly, They could even do it in 3D Like a 3D Eye Flash or Trailer like the Doctor Who one.

And Thanks

They seem to be operating differently this year, I can remember being in London during audition time in the past and seeing a huge BB10 billboard en route to meeting a BB person. Who knows how they do this year!

They'll do excelently if they do builbords and stuff. How about making the prize fund Ł90,000 and spend Ł10,000 on advertising!

Yeah I agree

Tbh if you think about it, its always some boring dolt no one likes that wins or someone that was quiet the entire series and JUST Came out of their shell on the last week.

If you think about how much we vote for winners, they win and then leave we dont actually see them spending the money and we are the ones that gave them it tbh so I think it would be better if we got to have advertisments instead of just other people getting money that you'll never see again after the final.

Who is going to pay for the advertising? Endemol - the people who make Big Brother, nope dont think so as it will affect their profit margins, they have already been paid for the series have budget plans to conform to and as such anything that they splash out on now will probably go over budget and reduce the one thing that BB is was and will always be about profits for them.

Channel 4? First you have to look at have they already sold the advertising breaks to advertisers if so , it makes no difference to them. if they have sold a few weeks to see how the series does then its a two sided coin if the series isnt a hit immediately they have to sell advertising spots lower than if they sold it all at the beginning of the series. But seriously why should channel 4 advertise it, if they do and it succeeds they look like pillocks for not renewing the contract dont they?

If they do have some forms of advertising already sorted though it wont be because they feel under pressure because of a thread on a forum a few weeks before launch, it will be because someone brought up the idea in pre production meetings a few months ago, and it was figured in to overall costs under marketing.

Mind you i suppose if you want it advertised you could have a whip round, get in touch with Channel 4 and Endemol and offer whatever pittance you raised between you, I am sure they will appreciate it. Every little helps.

*Puts Business Head On*

Adverts on TV - These are probably the most effective, however are expensive if you want to advertise during a prime time show, are C4 going to want to spend lots of money to advertise a show which is unlikely to get high rating anyway?

Radio - can be effective, but not everyone listens to radio

Billboards - Again, can be effective however they're very expensive and are targeting the same people, i.e. people who travel past the same billboard to get to work, the billboard is only seen by these people.

Adverts on Websites - Can seem very tacky

Adverts during Movie Trailers - Very expensive, probably more so than TV ad's due to the fact that the audience have to watch it and are unable to flick over like they can on TV.

True but if they (C4) want to go out with a bang they should do this!!
People say Endemol wont pay a lot of money, i have seen the most brilliant ads across the world for BB which are very effective. Why cant they do that here??

TV ads- Yes, very effective but as well as advertising in the usual C4, E4, More4, and the music channels... just 1 big advert during the finale of BGT would be brilliant... has to be dramatic with the date and a voiceover saying "The Last ever Big Brother" something that will appeal.

Radio- They are listened to quite a lot, eg. The Chris Moyal's show gets 7m-8m listeners daily.

Movie Trailers- I really doubt they would do it, but it would be fantastic, different, just will give you a feeling that they want people to see the series.

Billboards- NEEDS to be done. Its so effective, like BB7, I saw the billboards in my home town, in London etc.... everywhere. People WILL take notice of it. They are hard to miss.

Of course they should do it.
But C4 obviously won't, they say they want it to go out with a bang, but they're hardly going to slag the show off.
I think it will be a minimalist advertising campaign as usual, which is a real shame.

Not exactly, but some shows discuss the fact it's coming up, which is sort of free advertising

Also The Chris Moyle's show has always been 'a friend' of Big Brother hasnt it?
You'd think they'd at least advertise it.

But like Smithy said I have heard them and other stations in my hometown speak about the launch and evictions on the mornings of them and that is advertising.
