Smile School Prefects

Were / Are you a prefect at your school?

I am in year 10 and one of the senior students (Our school term for Prefects) in our year group. You are allowed to apply whilst in year 10 and become offical when the year 11's leave from my school (Take over the year 11 roles). We have Head/Deputy Girl/Boy roles as well as the leader of the senior student team and do the speaches to other year groups and the like. Seniors help out at events and help out on lunch duty.

Did/ Does your school have a system similar to that?

DON'T even get me started.
I was like.. ideal candidate for Head Boy [failing that, Deputy, or at least Prefect].
-was a typical 'good' student, never late/absent, good grades, no detentions/reports etc-

&the headteacher changed the year we had to choose them.
&he took an instant dislike to me when I questioned one of his new rules.
so when it was time to apply, I applied as I'd always planned to.
the result... I got nothing :|

when i left, i asked my music teacher who i was REALLY close with, and she said that the votes for Head Boy amongst the staff was split equally, meaning the headteacher chose out of the two of us, and obviously, he chose the other boy. you'd expect I'd get Deputy then? Nope, he chose a different student for deputy & wouldn't even give me prefect. when my music teacher protested he threatened her position within the school. she left the same year as me anyway, but fact is, he was a twat.
let's just say for the next year/two years of school i refused to respect his authority :/

lmfao, all that trouble over me :|

No, you don't apply. Head of houses choose, then ask if you want to.

I was an Additional Needs Prefect, helped kids with learning difficulties and disabilites. I think the system is different for every school.

I'm in '4th year', it's the '6th years (the pupils in their final year)' who become prefects, School Captains, Vice Captains etc. So I can't really comment on it.

In our school there's 120 people doing AS per year, and like 115 are prefects. I was a prefect but that means nothing at our school really... just put your name down and you are one.

I was one, but had no choice in the matter. The teachers choose me. I stopped a boy getting expelled once, the teacher blamed him for something the blatantly didn;t do. I went the the headmistress and said 'the teacher is lying' and bless her she believed me! i was telling the truth tho!

I was one briefly last year (my final year) but it didn't last long because I hated doing it and the kids were so rude and uncooperative so I just quit. There was meant to be about five prefects in one building during breaks/lunch times but in the end it was just me and my friend who were doing it, we didn't get any praise for doing it and we had to give up our own time to do it and there was no way we could handle the amount of kids were who sneaking in and causing trouble etc. so it was a disaster.

I was one in Year 11. It was really just standing about making sure things were in order where ever you were assigned to watch. I also had to act as a peer mentor for a form group, but I did it like once and never went back lmao.

It's pretty good to add onto statements/CV's etc to prove yourself.

I was a prefect in my 6th year of school; there were forty of us including head boy/girl and eight house captains (male and female house captain for each of the four houses), voted for by our year and the staff, decided by the senior management. I had daily duties that worked on a rota basis, four different types of duties that changed on a weekly basis. Also had a "buddy" class; where the four prefects from my form class took the equivalent 1st year form class one day a week; we'd take the register and chat to them etc... I really enjoyed it, it was a huge deal at my school so I felt really honoured to have been voted one, generally made my sixth year a lot more enjoyable and it felt a lot more directed and motivated because of the whole duties aspect to it!

All fifth and sixth year pupils at my school were prefects, unless you seriously screwed up your life. Saying that if a teacher caught someone misbehaving and there were prefects in the area, the prefect got punished as well for failing in their duty. The pupil would probably get detention and the prefect a strapping.

Ahhh the good old days.
