No actually the religion that you talk of is, that the father is allowed and often encouraged to take his own daughters virginity before she goes to the marital bed.

I can't believe that people who are disgusted with this, are being accused of not having a sense of humour.
Daves crossed the line of decency( by any standards) .. there are lots of traditions throughout history which are repulsive and wholly unacceptable today .. it takes a really special person to find them amusing and then relate them to his Family .. its vile!

The point is that Dave villifies himself, this 'joke' is just the latest in a long list of unsavoury behaviour he has embarked on (allbeit subjective) Dave doesn't seem to worry very much about the 'fall out' of his words or actions .. he hasn't seen fit to respect himself, friends or Family by keeping 'jokes' such as this latest one, to himself... why should he, he isn't the one having to deal with the flak! .. Except it never happened, what you are referring to is the practice of the family keeping the sheets of the bed when the marriage was consumated, in both the Jewish and Muslim faith, if the new husband decided he didnt like the wife he would claim that she wasnt virginal, the brides family would produce the sheets to prove the new husband had in fact deflowered her.

You or someone you "heard" about the practice you refer to are in fact referring to the discredited works of Osama Abdullah, who while denigrating the Jewish and Muslim faiths used some reference in the Bible to prove this practice took place.

I can't speak for the Muslim faith, but that's certainly an archaic practise in the Jewish faith. It was a tradition that the sheets would be presented to the Bride's family. You know a lot of stuff Shasown :-)
