The 3 acts you mentioned were awful. People need to stop looking into things that don't exist. They deserved to be eliminated.

bearing in mind only 1.5% of the UK is gay and most of them work in tv I am amazed we are not more homophobic.

but there is a distinction between feeling no malice to a person who prefers to have same sex sex and disliking men who are very camp or girls who look like builders on steroids.

That statistic is a massive crock of sh!t, tbh. I'd say about a good 18% are not straight.

I think that could well be a more accurate figure, considering you have to factor in the people that are still in the closet and those that don't yet know they are gay because they're too young or haven't thought/explored their sexuality properly. And it also doesn't factor in the people that didn't take this survey or refused to answer. 1.5% is an extremely low figure, and theoretically, why is it not possible that 50% of the population is gay and the other is straight [or, if we factor in biseuxality, 33% each way, or if we factor in 'other' then 25% each way]. I don't understand how that is not conceivable?

I personally believe [as I've said before on here] it's entirely possible that the entire population of the planet is 100% bisexual, however some do not know it or will not chose to explore other avenues other than what they know is 'right' to themselves.

That stat is about right,
but,
the variable is just what exactly someone may define 'homosexual' as. The best most scholarly studies have something between 1% - 3% who will say they have had homosexual experiences or 'been homosexual' at least for some time.
OK.
The thing is that this could be anything from someone who considered 'touching a friends penis' in some curiosity phases 20 years ago to be 'having been homosexual',
or,
this could be someone we might call 'openly, practicing, out-of-closet gay!'.
OR,
this can also means someone who (for example) did touch wangs with a uni friend but does NOT consider that counting as them having had a a homosexual experience.

To try and narrow it down some went to what may be the real experts - sales and marketing!
Again, not so easy to know if you can get this close to 'exact numbers' but you may look at:
- attendance (and repeat customers) and numbers of known 'gay nightclubs'.
- sales of 'gay sex products'.
- subscriptions to primarily gay newsletters
-attendance of primarily gay specific events (rallies, parades or lectures)

Somewhere in this you get something like .5 to 1.5% who we might be able to identify as 'confirmed homosexuals'. I don't enjoy that term but its communicating the idea of someone you would (if they chose to tell you) would identify and in some ongoing dedicated way be 'gay'.

At one time I was doing marketing research related to this and let me tell you the bosses would have LOVED to find out just exactly what % identified themselves (out or not) as homosexuals.
At the time there was every belief that (however many) on average homosexual men in particular had more disposable income and were reputed to respond very well to good marketing.

Anyways.. we also came up with something like about 1% going by everything from 'personal ads' to sales of gay DVDs at the adult shop to actually just questioning people we knew if they could think of anyone they knew heh.
(no, not pure science but then again you could say it WAS 'pure science' for what we could do).

Anyways.. what the hell was this topic about? Sorry im on a lot of different tablets right now.. wooooooo

It is an official figure and the best one we have. Unfortunately your estimate is irrelevant.

Official or not, it's a load of bullsh!t. 1.5? I am NOT that unique. Most of those people were either lying on they did those surveys in few types of places.
