There was a tv programme ages ago about being buried alive. It looked at coffins that had scratch mark on the lids (showing that people had been buried alive) and clawed at the coffin. Horrible

Also, I think it is China (could be wrong) where they bury people and attach string to their hands which leads up through a tube to the gravestone and the other end is a attached to a bell (so if the person is buried alive) somebody will hear the bell.
I read something about that too, wasn't it where the saying came from 'doing the graveyard shift' in that after people were buried someone was on guard at the burial ground in case a bell rang so they could get the person out.

I am not afraid of death, although I am afraid of a long, painful death. Death is just another part of life. I believe that something of you goes on to something else. We are just energy, and Einstein said you cannot destroy energy. Whatever the human "soul" is, I firmly believe it goes on after your body dies, like getting out of a worn-out or damaged car. I also believe that if you are a bad person, there comes a time when, somehow, you have to pay for that.

Yes, death does scare me.
But more than me dying, I find the sheer thought of my loved ones dying scary and devastating.

^^I don't even want to think about the latter!!

Dying itself no but the manner in which I will die yes. I terrified of dying whilst drowning. More than anything, slowly feeling yourself go whilst trying to hold on to your breaths ee, that has to be worst then getting a bullet and dying at once. Or getting eaten by an animal. some of them take their time. first arm, then leg....ah all you can do is bleed cry and stare death in the face. No. I don't want to die on a plane either. the long minutes where all you hear is screams around you, the engine dying, going down knowing this is it aaa

Wanting to die and not being able to scares me.

Don't worry we all will one day.
Apparently in the old days they lived to the 900 or something. Moses was supposedly 923. Don't know how I would cope. But those people that live to their hundreds should tell their secrets. I don't want to hear anything about fish and olive oil, we've all had that.

I'm not afraid of death, but I do worry about HOW I will die. I don't do pain very well, so perhaps something instantaneous rather than long drawn out, so I have no time to worry or be afraid, or worse still, to be a burden on my family.

We all die, and it is because life is finite that it has any meaning at all. Imagine being immortal - it would be a living hell.

The thought of myself or friends/family dying is quite scary, even moreso due to the fact each second passing we get closer to it. Just feels weird that one day we'll go and not exist anymore.

I probably already posted but I'm more scared/worried what my family would be like if I died then dying itself

Not really when it concerns me, no. When my time is up I'm going to embrace it (or try) but when it comes to people I'm close to, it terrifies me.

It does scare me, but I think it scares everyone a little bit as you don't know what happens afterwards.

Dying before I can raise and teach my kids how to be independent scares me most.

I think a lot of people spend too much time preoccupied with thoughts about the future and do not appreciate living in the moment. Death comes to us all but it's part of life and should not be feared too much.

Learn to cherish each day as if it was your last because one day it will be...!!!

I tend to agree with this ideal, except that it's ok to prepare for those who will be left in your wake, after your wake. I like to live in the present and toward the future a bit, and tend to not get overly weepy about the past. *But,* I don't want my best and loved ones to be ****ed for a long time because I wasn't there to help them(emotionally, or sometimes financially.)
Other than that, let's get this party started!!

"Life. Cherish it, you shall." ~yoda

I nearly died when i was 14 on a day out and i had about 20 minutes while i thought ok here we go its been fun but this is it and to be honest the only bit that scared me and probably the only thing that kept me alive and made me fight was the thought in my head about my mum and dad and how upset they would be.

Since then no other than the thought of upsetting other people death doesnt scare me at all i thought i was dead and the only thing that bothered me was how loved ones would feel.

As others have said, I'd hate the pain it might inflict on family and friends (if it's a bit presumptuous to say so ), but I've come to the thought where I wouldn't really mind it so long as it wasn't prolonged and painful. I believe there's no life after death but I don't really mind the idea of that. The absence of being sounds quite relieving, I suppose.
