I loved Little Women - its the only book I can ever remember owning so I must have read it dozens of times other than that I only remember reading comics

rhino, Little Women was one of favorite as well.

All in all I always loved four books I was little older.

1. Anne of Green Gable
2. Daddy Longleggs
3. Littel Women
4. Jane Ayre

Then I realised one day this books's heroin had one thing in common.

I vaguely remember Anne of Green Gables from TV but I cant remember much what it was about - I never read it. What did they have in common?

I used a school library and remembered I competed with my class mates which one of us borrowed more.
I was talking about nearly 50 years ago, and reading was one of few entertainments for us then.
Aesop's Fables (I liked the story of The North wind and The Sun), Grimm FairTales, and many many more, beside Japanese tales.

Still those four books were my favourite.

This thread brought back some lovely memories for me. Anne of Green Gables, The Magic Faraway Tree and Little Women were all favourites of mine. I also loved The Weirdstone of Brisingamon. My absolute favourites were the Chronicles of Narnia, especially The Horse and His Boy and of course, The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe. I was a bit obsessed, and every time I went somewhere new I would check the back of the wardrobe... just in case.

Livia lol at the wardrobe but how true that books absorb you like that. I recently read a book called Mister Pip by Lloyd Jones, which takes that to an extreme. It is a short read but very powerful, if you get the chance to read it I think you would enjoy it

sounds great Sooty, to have read so many books when you where a child. As I said before I only owned Little Women and read it to death so to speak. But now I make up for it and read all the time and look forward to Book Club night lol

I remember the Chip, Biff, Kipper books that you had to progress up reading-boxes with.
& then other standards: Roald Dahl, Harry Potter, Goosebumps, Horrible Histories...
