Yeah because prior to this they were so unknown with their #2 and #3 albums (certified gold + platinum respectively) and 15 top 40 singles.

And I haven't actually seen them dissing Matt. I've heard them refer to it as "an X Factor cover" which is only really a criticism if you subscribe to the idea that X Factor covers are bad things...and since you don't, and you love his cover...you don't.
You are missing the point, they may be everything to you as a fan,but SOME people have not or HAD not heard of them till now WHY do you think that is?and why are the 'fans' rushing out and buying this now and not when it got to number 20 in the charts last year?

It's just personal preference as far as I'm concerned. I'm not really a fan of covers unless they're done very well and/or add something different (in a good way) to the original. The name change and the over production (which always happens on X Factor winning singles) is a mockery of the original which is raw and full of emotion, but that's just my opinion. And yes Matt does love the original song, but he said he wouldn't have chosen to do a cover, nor sing half the songs he did during the competition.

For the record I'm not rushing out to buy the Biffy version, I already have it on their latest album. Personally I think a Xmas song should be #1 for Xmas.

The 'some people who have never heard of them' are the same people who have probably never heard of Kate Bush, Bob Dylan and Joe Strummer.

You don't seem to be getting that point. If you keep on watching just the X Factor for your musical input you're never going to be aware of the huge alternative artists of the moment.

The fans rushing out and buying this now object to a watered down cover of something they love. Don't forget - most of the fans will have bought the album rather than the single, hence its modest placing last year. But of course there's a "grrr! i hate the x factor!!" contingent amongst these new customers - and if anything you shouldn't take that personally: it's more of an attack on Simon Cowell, the X Factor monopoly, rather than Matt himself.

No need to try and be patronising just because I havent heard of your beloved Biffy does not mean I do not enjoy or follow different styles of music,I watch the Xfactor because we enjoy it as a family,as i suppose you must watch it! I have very varied musical tastes some of which no doubt you have never heard of does that make you any the less a music buff than I?Of course it doesn't.And if this is a protest against Simon Cowell and not Matt why on earth do people still watch it,it's all seems so childish to me and it's getting boring now.

I don't even know where to begin.

a) They aren't my beloved Biffy. You're trying to paint me as the only Biffy Clyro fan in the world when in fact, there're thousands, maybe millions. I don't even like them that much. Stop calling me patronising and then saying "your beloved Biffy", it makes you look a hypocrite.
b) I watch it because I have nothing else to do. And because most people I know do, so I like to keep updated. You say you watch it because you enjoy it as a family - well you must then realise the difference between watching something awful for entertainment (such as Big Brother) and watching something for new musical talent (...which is NOT the X Factor).
c) Well I'm dying to hear about your varied musical tastes that allow for Matt Cardle to dominate like he does.
d) Most of the people buying the Biffy song probably DON'T still watch it.

You're just overreacting because you have some absurd emotional investment in Matt - when I've just pointed out most of these protests aren't even against him personally. What does it even matter to you? He'll inevitably have more success than he deserves anyway. There are thousands of talented young musicians out there who're trying to make a name for themselves the honest way, without having their opinions and motives exploited by Cowell for media attention. So yeah, I'm sorry if some people are objecting to a horribly commercial, shallow, talent-destroying system. And I'm sorry if I'm doing it in a patronising tone, but believe me, it's a lot more pleasant than the resentful tone I can quite easily flip to.

I called them your beloved Biffy as you are the one that seems to be dissing me because I had never heard of them,2nd I cannot believe someone watches a program as 'they have nothing else to do' but finds time to trash it,but still ,and do remember we all have different tastes one mans meat is another mans poison,I am not overreacting I am answering your posts and don't worry I would not bore you with my musical tastes as it's only yours that count obviously.

It doesn't take a fan of a band to point out ignorance - and besides, you're not just saying you haven't heard of them, you claimed they should "be thankful to Matt" for getting exposure. I just pointed out they already have enough

2nd...well you should try being a student. Trust me, I'd love there to be good TV on on a Saturday but it's like...erm...everything I just said (Cowell, commercialism, bad music, y'know...the usual) goes against me

And...nice retort at the end. Real mature. Like I said...hypocrite now I believe I have a victory parade to get to.

The 'thanking Matt' bit was meant tongue and cheek, you really shouldn't take everything so seriously, and hasn't your TV got more than one channel? and as for hypocrite, how so?i am open to all kids of music i just didn't know this Biffy lad

I think that a campaign for a Christmas song should be held instead of campaigning for the same song. I don't think this campaign will get enough support anyway, not enough people know about it and I don't think that enough people are willing to spend money on the campaign this year. Unlike 'The Climb' last year, the song itself is pretty good, regardless of who is singing it, so I highly doubt that it will succeed in getting the Christmas number one.

You're clearly taking the piss now as it's been explained countless times that Biffy Clyro are a band.

Because some people are ignorant when it comes to things outside the top 40. They're a well known band there's no denying that. The reason it only got to 20 last time is because Biffy Clyro aren't based around singles it's all about the album sales. Singles only matter to the top 40 type of artists.
