St. George's Day has nothing to do with protestantism. Saint George died 1200 years before Martin Luther or the Church of England existed. Most countries for whom he is the patron saint (Georgia, Serbia, etc) are actually Eastern Orthodox and also Spain and Lebanon whose largest body of Christians are Catholic.
And in fact St. George's Day is still not a public holiday in the UK -not even in England- even though St. Patrick's Day is.
