House
70's psychedelic "horror" movie from Japan. After we were done watching it, my friend broke our collective speechlessness by proclaiming it 'fabulous shit'. I agree 8/10

Belle de Jour (1967)
Golden Lion winner from that year's Venice Film Festival with Catherine Deneuve's most iconic role. I like Luis Bunuel too and I had been waiting for a long time to see this so my expectations were high. Almost impossibly high. A bit of a disappointment then on that front. My main complaint is that it simply lacks the shock value it had back in its time. That aside, still a pretty good movie with some very complex characters, not least among them the lead heroine, a respectable middle-class married woman who adopts a pseudonym (the title of the movie) as she turns to a secret life of upmarket prostitution in hope she can re-inject some passion into her frigid marriage. There are a number of striking ideas, archetypes and images here that won't be unfamiliar to fans of David Lynch's Blue Velvet. It's very apparent that Lynch (a surrealist, like Bunuel) must have been a fan of this movie.

Insidius.. I screamed like a baby.
a review I found of it. I went into this movie confident that it would be a cheesy, campy romp with the same "tried and true tricks of the trade," like when the hero is investigating the creepy music coming from the basement and a cat jumps into frame, but I quickly discovered that this would not be case with Insidious. After watching the move and obsessing on it for about 12 hours now, I can honestly say it's one of the scariest movies I've ever seen. In fact, there were several points during the film where I screamed like a 13-year old girl at a Justin Beiber concert. Keep in mind I was consciously trying my hardest to keep my composure, mainly because I was sitting beside my new girlfriend of 2 months. She, incidentally, didn't make a peep; thankfully, I later found out she had her eyes closed the whole time. I was also expecting to see some blood and guts, especially coming from the guys who made Saw, but there wasn't a drop. Instead, they used just about everything else in their arsenal to scare the bejesus out of me and everyone else in the theater (my girlfriend included). From literally the opening credits, they created an intense, haunting tension that didn't leave my body till several whiskeys and half a Xanax later. And the movie constantly feeds that tension, making even the characters' mundane family life somehow seem utterly terrifying. I was actually exhausted leaving the theater from all of the uncomfortable squirming I was unable to control. I'd say it's the most calories I've ever burned while watching a movie (well, at least a PG-13 movie). Overall, the movie was great. It was crazy scary, thoroughly entertaining, and even surprisingly funny at times. Having said that, it will be quite some time before I watch another horror movie; I have no desire to be turned into a frazzled bundle of nerves again anytime soon. So, if you plan on seeing this movie, please consider this a cautionary reminder: it's probably best to go with someone who's already witnessed you have a complete physical and mental breakdown, so as to avoid an embarrassing drive home. And maybe bring a Xanax as well. Last edited by Beso; 04-05-2011 at 11:25 PM. |

I finally saw Scream 4. lol.
It was good. A lot of killing sprees! I think what it missed out on was the "tension" part of the killings. There wasn't too much tension. Kirby was a good character. She was hot. It seems anyone can just be stabbed and then brought to life again.. lol like Sidney. I do hope there is a Scream 5 and 6 though! They will have to start winding it down soon. You know.. the 3 originals being killed off. Maybe them turning against each other? Or not.. they are all 3 likeable characters. Be weird for one of them to suddenly be a killer. I miss Randy. Lol. |

Salo or The 120 Days Of Sodom
It defies explanation. It's one of the sickest films ever made. If you do watch it read a review first to see what you're in for |

No Strings Attached.
It was good, but very predictable. Ashton Kutcher and Natalie Portman are both so hot. ![]()
