Aaron isn't interested in Tom. Tom needs to realise that - and realise that he isn't 'all that' either.

Aaron can be viewed as 'confused' when it comes to Tom because Aaron didn't realise how Tom thought he had a two-way relationship going on with him.

I believe Aaron was aware of the flirting, he just didn't realise how Tom was taking it as something more than just friendly banter.

TOm told AAron that he liked him, in specific terms. So you can't say that Aaron didn't know.

Liking him and having a crush on him can be viewed very differently. I do not think Aaron knew how serious Tom actually was.
