It looked more that he knew he couldn't leave her in there upset and alone, even after the crap she dishes him out (telling him not to 'effing ever speak to me again) ....it was a look of 'resignation' rather than cold - as he said, doesn't mean he doesn't care for her, but if he's resigned to the fact that she's not what he initally thought - he's sure to feel disappointed.

Exactly. I'd much rather a person walk away from an argument and go calm down, so they don't say something they regret in the heat of the moment and are able to have a rational, productive conversation once they've cooled off.
