After what happened at the Munich games, no one takes any chances. in Athens 2004 they set up anti-aircraft missles around the whole city.
I believe during London games there will also be a US Carrier deployed to the area with many capabilities, including anti-missle weaponry and thousands of US troops ready to respond to any situation that should arise around the US athletes.
