Yeah it was the same with Jon Huntsman as well, he pulled out the race the other day too because he's an ex-Democrat and too moderate for the Religious Right, I'm surprised Ron Paul's still in there plugging away considering how he actually doesn't blame Muslims for all of America's problems overseas

Ron Paul's libertarianism sits well with a section of American conservatives though, with his desire to dismantle things like healthcare/social security/any kind of business regulations.

Don't think Huntsman is an ex democrat though. I think he was a republican who accepted a job in Obama's government, but remained as a conservative. Obama tried to work with republicans up until the point they started calling him a liar if he said the sea was blue.

Ah yes you're right, he wasn't a Democrat, must have just misread/misunderstood that about him. And yeah I know Ron Paul's economic views are likely to be popular among those who fear "big Government" but some of the stuff he says on foreign policy is almost quite radical, he thinks Iran should be allowed the bomb, he blames America for poor relations with the Muslims world etc. not the sort of stuff you'd expect to be coming out the mouths of most Republicans
