It does say at the beginning of every DVD not to copy...reproduce and such, im just wondering with him being a science student if they were worried it was a cover? but then he would be breaking the law here too...His mother mentioned a 2004 law, could be the civil contingencies act which can override the human rights act if needed if relating to areas of national or international security.

No thats not his site thats just a random file hosting site that sometimes has been known to host films and music but thats all he did is post links to other sites on his website on his website thats all there was links to other websites and now he is being persecuted by bullys desperate to rule the internet and dictate to the world what they want to be allowed.

This thread wasnt really meant to be about that one case just the overbearing world police attitude that the us government display in trying to force their laws down the rest of the worlds throat.
This documentary warns of the path that nazi germany took that pattern is being repeated by america.

I agree to an extent
It was still a conspiracy theory in nazi germany until after it had happened though.

Yeah, I do agree with you, but the internet is a bit of a grey area, especially if you're, infact, stealing something from another country

wait, so you're saying that not being able to download free movies is equivalent to the murder of 6 million homosexuals, mentally disabled people, and semites? REALLY?

get a grip.

I'm certainly against internet censorship, but to compare it to the holocaust is repulsive and completely misguided.

To call it tenuous is dismissing your own belief. I live under the law of this country and do my best to abide by its laws what right does another country have to start extraditing law abiding citizens of another country?
Ok would you be happy to be extradited to saudi arabia for drinking alcohol? would you be happy to be extradited to france for selling a doll that didnt have a human face or extradited to portugal for peeing in the ocean?
No you wouldnt but all these things are illegal according to their laws but you arent expected to live by those laws so why live by americas??
I wasn't actually disagreeing with your point because extadition should always be a two way street and it often isn't especially where some countries, like the USA are concerned. However, as you've made a couple of analogies... Peeing in the ocean and drinking alcohol may well be illegal in other countries but I can't do them, and make money from them, using the Internet thereby breaching Portugal and Saudi law.

I said it's tenuous because your point is about someone who's made money from the work of other people and who now is being requested to answer for it in the country where that work is copyrighted. It's not the same thing as taking a stand against a country which occupied large areas of Europe by force bringing about a world war and wiping out millions of people.

You are so inspirational Livia, I agree with all you have said in your posts on this issue raised on this thread.

Its because of the 2003 Extradition Act covering extradition requirements between the UK and other countries and the wording required by each country to be able to have a person extradited, we have to show "probable cause", the US has to show "reasonable suspicion". bearing in mind that the interpretation of reasonable suspicion in our courts would be different than the interpretation of probable cause in US courts.

Also you have to bear in mind the rights of appeals in the US in comparison to the rights of appeals in the UK legal system. The CPS and Procurator Fiscal always consider costs and public interest before launching expensive extradition applications.

et's also talk about the fact that the UK doesn't even need a SOPA, they already have the power of censorship, people are being BANNED from talking about things online via yur COURTS already. People can be pulled into UK courts for talking about super injunctions.

Super-Injunctions are FAR more of a violation of free speech than anything SOPA could do.

You can make money from peeing and being drunk if you find the right audience

Not like you to be completely over dramatic is it
just because i drew some comparisons i should of known you would go over the top in being ridiculous.
i never mentioned the holocaust i merely drew some comparisons in there behaviour for example the right to detain its own citizens indefinitely without charge that was passed recently thats a terrifying development and a complete abuse of human rights when was the last time we saw such draconian measures taken??

it's a not a terrifying devlopment, considering the US still has the most iron clad free speech laws in the world, ebven if SOPA did pass, we'd still be light years ahead of any other country in terms of freedom of speech and freedom of expression.

The funny thing is that People like you don't realize that every country in the eurozone and every other country in the civilized world already has more draconian laws in place, so to focus on the US like this is really ridiciulous. maybe you should spend some time trying to fix the same laws that ALREADY exist in your OWN country....

just an idea...

What use is free speech if you can be locked up indefinitely without a right to trial,a defence or any right of appeal?

And stop trying to turn it into Europe v America topic thats very childish you try it every time its not a willy waving competition being the less abused of two oppressed sets of people is nothing to be proud of.

catch up Alex.
And stop trying to turn it into Europe v America topic thats very childish you try it every time its not a competition.
okay, you don't realize what a hypocritical thing you just said? you just switched the subject to "indefinite detention" and then in the same breath said i'm the one switching the subject? seriously dude, really?

I'm not going to bother anymore if you can't have an intelligent COHERENT conversation. I'll just let you rant and rave. Have fun.

I didn't try to turn it into Europe Vs. America. We are talking about freedom of information and freedom of speech, all relevant to the topic that YOU made, I didn't go off topic at all.

Id' really like you to explain to me how comparing American freedom of speech laws compared to European freedom of speech laws is me going of topic though.... are you going to bother to explain that? or... are you just going to use obnoxious emoticons??

Do you have anything to say? or are you just gonna use childish smiley face graphics... srsly?
