We get really big spiders here as well, I remember lying in bed one night and I heard something move a paper bag that was next to the bed, I turned on the light and there was a gigantic spider walking on it

It's not so bad now since we re did the upstairs, we used to have wooden ceiling so they used to come out of the attic but since we plastered the ceilings there haven't been as many

Yes and some other's of mine include electricty pylons and certain old toilets/bathrooms. Old cooling towers too, horrible things.
