Of course they can't, but it's still worth a try, no? And as you just said yourself, they need to learn not to act on it and surely as much help as possible with dealing with urges can only be beneficial? I'd much rather there be an opportunity to attempt to cut down on the number of attacks made on children, than to just let it pass by because 'there's no point'.
