I 100% disagree youre trying to trivialise a particularly nasty piece of discrimination. Bullying like that must be called out for the puerile bile it is and stamped on with a massive boot. rewatch it and imagine youre on 24 hour tv and having your body being pointed at and laughed at when all youre doing is trying to exercise. horrible people horrible bullying sexist behaviour

Maybe it's karma for Adam's past misdeeds. I agree with MatthewS, it's just bitches being bitches. We've seen much worse in BB.

Is that really bullying though? I mean, its a bit rude, and I'm sure Adam knew they were talking about him and having a laugh, but they didn't maliciously say it to his face or anything. A lot of people have a laugh at someones expense, doesn't necessarily mean they're bullying.

Bullying is absolutely unacceptable obviously, but I just don't think its happened in this particular situation.

This goes moreso to Becky than Adam. Being that overweight is a public health risk and quite frankly a little disgusting. Of course, certain people have medical conditions that make it impossible for them to be in their medically sound ideal weight range, so this doesn't apply to them. But Becky, she's overweight because she likes to eat, and shes made that abundantly clear. Its her decision to make, and quite frankly, a poor one at that. I don't think the other housemates should have to bite their tongues about it.
How is it a public health risk?

Probably not the best wording. It's a personal health risk, and if the UK is like Canada, more and more people are becoming overweight, which leads to increased chances of developing problems from weakened immune systems, high cholesterol, high blood pressure etc etc, which leads to strokes, cancer.......etc.

Not sure how healthcare works in the UK specifically, but in Canada it's all covered by the government. Health complications coming from an increasing overweight populations here are costing the government millions and millions a year. It really is a quite serious problem.

Unfortunatly if you happen to be an overweight person & you go on BB you are open to ridicule from people, it says more about them than it does the overweight person.
Im not sure bullying is the right choice of word, bitchy & nasty is more like it.

Is that specific to BB though? If you're quite overweight, are you not just as susceptible to ridicule in real life?

It was blatant bullying discrimination and probably a bit of sexism too as that discrimination would NEVER happen so directly to any woman and if it did all hell would break loose. yet more double standards.

Yes it is a personal health risk, and being overweight is as much an issue in UK as it is other countries of the western world.
However we still live a democracy and have some freedoms left to us, so if a person has a weight issue, I don't really see that, that fact alone gives anyone and everyone the right to comment on it.
You maybe able to justify to a small degree that you find it' a little disgusting' by dragging out the tired old, but it's costing us millions argument.
So does smoking, sports, horse riding, skiing, surfing, and every other kind of sport and sports injuries and in the UK, overindulging in alcohol causes far more damage to our society and our health service, than having our small island totally populated by fat people.
Then we have drug abuse....... I could go on....

Again, saying something negative to/about someone isn't necessarily bullying. If we go by your definition, every single one of us has been bullied our entire lives and probably should be seeking psychological advice. I'm sure why you're bringing sexism into it, they're not having a laugh at adam because he's male, they're having a laugh because he looked a little funny running around being a bit out of shape. It really isn't a massive conspiracy or a huge deal.

Do you not feel dizzy all the way up there on your high horse?

Please understand what bullying is before bleating on about it. Calling someone a name, being mean or doing something rude does not automatically equal bullying.

Adam doesn't seem the type to be bothered by a couple of intellectually challenged, vacuous girls giggling at him.

Again, I'm not necessarily condoning the comments, I just see their thought process. The thing about democracy though, is that it goes hand in hand with free speech. They can chat about anything they want, regardless of how controversial or rude it may be, its their right. Were they a little mean/cruel? Possibly. But they have every right to make that comment if they choose. Life is cruel sometimes. They're not the only people who have made a comment that could be interpreted as rude, everyone has said something nasty at one point or another.

And you're right about the smoking thing. They're quite similar and both bad for your health. I think one of the housemates bitching to another about someone smoking, it's essentially the same as them bitching about someones weight. People seem to be quite defense and politically correct when it comes to weight comments, but don't feel the same convictions when its about other equally problematic health issues.

Scott - we ain't in the bleeding soprano, so stop acting like it.

On topic, I agree that Shievonne is getting more vile by the day. I'm sure in a week's time you can multiply her 3% by 33.

There's fiesty and tough and then there's unnecessarily rude and really blowing your chances of winning.

What does Ashleigh say when it's cut back to Ashleigh and Shievonne after Conor has said they going to do races to see who's the fastest? I hear something for which others have been chucked out.

again I am disgusted by your condoning of this discrimination and bllying. youre false attempt to underplay it and treat it as fickle is nauseating and exposes your character. they laughed at a person directly and spitefully because of his body and because he is overweight as he was minding his own business trying to exercise. you are also playing dumb and pretending you dont see or understand the sexist double standards, if a man mocked a womans weight and mocked her body and laughed at her to her face as she exercised, the woman would be in floods of tears and the man would be called every name from misogynist sexist bully and worse. its double standards.

I've said multiple times already that I don't personally condone the behavior at hand, did you miss all those posts? However, I also stated why I don't consider this particular stuation to be bullying.

BULLYING DEFINITION:
Bullying is a form of aggressive behavior manifested by the use of force or coercion to affect others, particularly when the behavior is habitual and involves an imbalance of power. It can include verbal harassment, physical assault or coercion.

By definition, what happened is NOT bullying. It may be considered rude/mean/catty/etc, but it's certainly not bullying.

Quote:
you are also playing dumb and pretending you dont see or understand the sexist double standards
I'm am not playing dumb, I just don't consider the comments made to be sexist. Sexism is quite condemnable behavior obviously, but for this particular situation to be considered sexist, Shiv & Ashleigh would have had to make those comments BECAUSE Adam is a male. That's what Sexism is. A Prejudice based on someones sex. They made the comments because he looked funny, it had nothing to do with him being a male. You're upset that sexism exists, as you should be. The comments made however, were not sexist.

I don't get why you're harping on me for these views. I feel like I've explained myself quite concisely, and provided enough educated reason as to why I see things this way.

If you think I'm wrong, fair enough, but let's just agree to disagree then, no need to continue this bickering.

Also, I've never said anything negative to you, just stated my opinion on the situation at hand. You then called me "dumb", and stated that you find my views "nauseating" & "fickle". By your definition, you just bullied me.
